Holding a Butterfly - Mrs. Krantz

Today was full of special things!  We had an Easter Egg Hunt!  And thanks to some illegal parking on the road, we had a quick, impromptu visit with a police officer!  We joined Mrs. O'Loughlin's class for worship and then the day ended with each of us holding a butterfly!  What a great day!

Easter Eggs and Bunnies - Mrs. King

What a busy morning!  First we enjoyed our annual Easter Egg hunt.  I was so proud of how all our preschoolers hunted for eggs and worked together to make sure that everyone had some eggs!

After we came inside we had a special visitor!  A momma rabbit and her 2 babies came so we could learn about them and pet them.  The babies are only 2 weeks old!

We also learned more about Easter and read from the children's bible to help us understand why we celebrate Easter and what Jesus did for us.

Don't forget that Easter is on Sunday and Spring Break is next week so we will not have school.  We will see each other again on April 10!  Have a great week!

5 Butterflies - Mrs. Krantz

All five butterflies are happy and healthy and fluttering around in our butterfly pavilion!  It sure was fun watching them and we even we able to watch them eat!  Ask your preschooler how butterflies eat.  It is pretty amazing to watch.

We also took a look at the empty shells of the chrysalis and talked about Easter and the empty tomb.

Our Easter Egg Hunts are on Thursday and Friday at 9:15am.  Younger siblings are welcome to hunt too!  It looks like we will be outside, but if that changes we will let you know!

The Empty Tomb - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Using our sense of hearing, the preschoolers tried to guess what was in each of the plastic eggs Mrs. O’Loughlin had. Ask them what was inside a few! When we got to the last egg and it was shaken the preschoolers heard...nothing. What? The egg was empty! The preschoolers admitted they were a little disappointed. This brought up the feelings of the women who woke up early to go to the tomb and found it empty. They weren’t disappointed they were super happy! This changed our feelings about that empty egg!

Fluttering Butterflies - Mrs. Krantz

Easter learning is all around us and we took the opportunity to talk about Jesus death and resurrection and how the butterfly can remind us of just that.  New life emerged from the chrysalis, the chrysalis is empty!  The tomb Jesus was buried in is empty!  He is alive and brings us new life in Him!

We loved watching our 4 butterflies flutter about in the butterfly pavilion.  It was so amazing to take a close up look!

Easter Surprise - Mrs. King

We started off our morning reading the book, "The Easter Story: Something Wonderful!"  We learned about how Jesus came to earth to live with us and died to save us! But He didn't stay dead, He came alive again!  We are learning a new song called, "If I Were a Butterfly," in preparation for preschool Sunday coming up on April 29th.

We are so excited for the Easter Egg hunt on Thursday at 9:15.  Parents and younger siblings are welcome to stay with us to enjoy the fun! We will also have bunnies visit our class after hunt!

Don't forget that we would love to see you at Concordia for church on Easter Sunday and next week is Spring Break!

Easter ABC's - Mrs. O'Loughlin

We were busy at work with letters today!! Each preschooler looked for the letters within in their name to create an egg hunting bag. They’re beautiful and all ready for Thursday morning!

Plastic letters were passed out and while reading an ABC Easter book, the preschoolers would come add their letter to the letter line. This group is getting so good at their letter recognition!

During worship we read the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Ask your preschooler how the disciples felt when Jesus had died. And how did they feel on Easter morning when they learned He had risen!!

Butterflies are Here! - Mrs. Krantz

Over the weekend, two butterflies emerged from their chrysalis homes!  Just after the preschoolers left, and while I was in the office, a third made it's debut!  What fun it has been to watch this amazing life cycle.

We are learning all about Holy Week and heard about Jesus washing the feet of his disciples and the Last Supper.

Holy Week - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Our morning started off with science! Mr. Levi brought candy and did some dissolving experiments with us. Ask your preschool which liquid dissolved the peeps fastest! They love sharing their experiences with you!

In worship we read Bright Easter Morning. It’s a rhyming book that takes us on a walk through Holy Week. Your preschooler can tell you what Jesus did for us! We are learning some new Easter songs that will definitely make their way home to you!

Outside in the sunshine was a welcome change from the cooler days!!

This should be a very exciting week at preschool.  We are sure to see our adult butterflies sometime this week.  What an amazing experience it has been to watch the steps of the life cycle and now to see the butterflies emerge right before Easter!  We will make some faith connections with this experience as we talk about the death and resurrection of Jesus this week.  Some wonderful Easter projects will be headed home this week too.

Science is on Monday and Tuesday this week.  We always love it when Mr. Levi teaches us!

Monday and Tuesday also have a great volunteer opportunity for parents.  We need egg stuffers!  Starting at 9am over at the church, there will be eggs and stuffing items for each egg.  These will be used for our Easter Egg Hunts on Thursday and Friday at 9:15am.  If you can help stuff even for 5-10 minutes, we would be very thankful!

Touring the Fire Station - Mrs. O'Loughlin

The City of Pullman Fire Department gave us another fantastic tour today! We sat in an ambulance and a fire truck, saw where the firefighters slept and made dinners while at the station, and realized how different the firemen looked when they had all their gear on.

A Butterfly Play - Mrs. Krantz

We've had some really fun project based learning this month and we finished up one of those projects today with our Butterfly Play.  We created the meadow mural, each made a butterfly that could fold it's wings and use it's creature power of camouflage and we made a a hungry bird puppet.   Today we worked together to use our butterflies and birds to act out the play of a leisurely butterfly landing on flowers, drinking the sweet flower nectar and quickly protecting itself from the incoming hungry bird.  What fun we had!

Visiting Author Sherry Varkonyi - Mrs. Krantz

Special thanks goes out to Pullman native Sherry Varkonyi for coming to visit us this morning and reading us her brand new book "Rockin' the Beat."  It was a delightful book and is nos part of our preschool library!  What a fabulous time we had together!

Fire Station Field Trip - Mrs. O'Loughlin

We had a fabulous field trip to the Pullman Fire Department this morning! We were there when a call came in and got to see the firefighters in action as they rushed off to help someone!

Knott Dairy Center - Mrs. King

We had a super morning at the Knott Dairy center visiting Ms. B's beloved cows.  We got to see the cows being milked, looked at a few cows up close (they are SO big) and our favorite was going to see the calf barn.  The calves were so excited to see us and were licking us thinking we had milk to give them.  We ended our field trip with some time to run and play in the grass and enjoy the beautiful sunshine!

I loved seeing the excitement on our preschoolers faces and see their delight as they experienced something new together.  Thank you so much for everyone who went along and enjoyed this fun field trip with us!

Mrs. King's Weekly Newsletter

This week is our much anticipated field trip to the Knott Dairy Center at WSU. Our preschoolers are so excited to see the cows, calves and farm and they are very quick to remind us that they are Miss B’s cows and it is Miss B’s farm🐮.

On a side note, you may have noticed that Miss B was not with us this past week. She had to have shoulder surgery, and while recovery is painful she seems to be doing well! She hopes to join us for the field trip and will return to preschool when she is feeling up to it. We love having Mrs. Wilson with us for the time Miss B is away.

About the field trip: thanks so much to the parents that are able to go along with us. Our goal is to leave about 9:10. Feel free to bring backpacks in and use the restroom and then we will head out to our vehicles to drive over to the dairy center.

Snack is provided and we will eat as soon as we get to the dairy. We are anticipating good weather, but it will probably be muddy so please dress your preschooler in boots (I will have our preschool boots out and you’re welcome to grab those) and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty!

After a snack and activity we will be able to go to the barn with the calves and maybe even have some playtime outside to round out our trip! If you drive your child you are welcome to leave directly from the dairy. Depending on what time we finish we will return to school and and we can finish up with some activities there.

On Thursday we have chapel where we will learn about Palm Sunday and how the people celebrated Jesus coming into Jerusalem in anticipation of Easter.

Blessings!

We are a very blessed school to have community volunteers bring us experiences that we would otherwise not have.  On Monday baby chicks are coming to the preschool.  And on Tuesday bunnies and duckling are coming to the preschool.  I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the first days of spring!  A huge thank you to Beth Tietjen and Katie Bystrom.

We also have SHARE Day on Monday and Tuesday!

Your preschoolers have been learning all about fire fighters, fire trucks, when and how to dial 911 and they have been practicing STOP, DROP AND ROLL!  It only makes sense to end our amazing fire house learning and fun by visiting a real fire station!  Wednesday and Thursday we will our field trips to the City of Pullman Fire Department!  Our volunteer spots filled up quickly to drive and help out!  Thank you for being so willing!  If you are not one of the drivers, please be sure to bring your preschoolers car seat to the preschool on the morning of our field trip.  An email will be sent out at the beginning of the week with car seating arrangements.

In worship we will be shouting “HOSANNA!” as we learn about Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem! Songs of praises to our Lord is one our favorite parts of worship time.

Looking forward to another wonderfully full week!

In addition to all that fun, we will continue learning about butterflies and will finish the components for our butterfly play that we will be able to act out on Thursday and Friday.  We will be learning about symmetry and camouflage.  It is quite likely we will have some live adult butterflies!

In worship we will learn about people praising Jesus and His triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  We will make palms and sing "Hosanna!"

Life Cycle Posters - Mrs. Krantz

We finish life cycle posters ed up our posters today!  Last week we worked hard creating each component of the butterfly life cycle and today we put it all together on poster board.  The preschoolers were very proud of their hard work and the finished project.  The teachers were pretty proud too.

We are happy to report that we have 2 chrysalis and 3 that should be changed by tomorrow!

Dial 911 - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Your preschoolers are loving our firehouse unit! Today we heard a poem called “Dial 911”. After listening to the poem a few times, it was our turn to practice calling. Each kiddo dialed 911 and told the dispatcher (Mrs. O’Loughlin) why they needed a fire truck, police or ambulance. Ask your preschooler when is the only time to dial 911 on a real phone.

Role playing continued on into centers with a very busy dispatch center as well as chalk fires being sprayed out with real water!

Mrs. Hein came into our class today and showed us how to make two types of clay pots. Ask your preschooler which type they chose to make! Once these are dry, I will send them home to fill with all sorts of treasures!

Reminder: No preschool on Friday!

Growing Meadow - Mrs. Krantz

Our butterfly meadow mural has grown and more flowers have filled the space.  Next up is making butterflies and birds that will fly through the meadow.  We will see what happens as we play out butterfly scenarios!

The Name Game - Mrs. O'Loughlin

The preschoolers practiced some rhyming today. It was discovered that some rhymes are silly and nonsense words. Giggles filled the room when the kiddos were introduced to the Name Game. “Sarah Sarah bo barah, banana fana fo fara...” So silly and so fun and so awesome that each preschooler has their very own song!

Cooperative Play - Mrs. King

Our preschoolers have grown so much in their ability to play together!  I am so blessed to see them form friendships and choose to play together!  This morning some favorites during centers were puzzles and imagining with the barns and farm animals.  Our preschoolers are really maturing and becoming great classmates to each other.

We also had woodworking with Papa Ken and are working on a special project for Easter which will be here before we know it.  And of course, we had to spend a good long time outside enjoying the sunshine and warmer temperatures.  We looked for signs of spring outside and are so excited to have some more warm days.

Butterfly Meadow - Mrs. Krantz

Our classroom caterpillars are HUGE!  It was so fun to see the preschoolers reactions to the size they grew over the weekend.  Of course, we made record of their growth in our science journals.  We also began to put our butterfly meadow mural together for our butterfly play that we will have fun with next week.  Flowers and grass were added today... more to come with the mural!

We finished up our adult butterflies, so we will be able to assemble our life cycle posters on Wednesday!

Building and Serving at Preschool - Mrs. O'Loughlin

To say preschoolers were busy this Monday morning would be a huge understatement! Fire trucks were being built using nothing but shapes! Then this group got to work on constructing a fire station for all our fire trucks. Of course a road was needed, so out came the road to connect houses and fire stations! Houses!! We needed houses! Magna tiles were perfect for construction of those smaller houses. It was an amazing little neighborhood!

In worship we talked about serving in love! Together we thought about all the way Jesus served in love and how we can be like that too. During outside time, some of us went around the preschool and church to serve by picking up trash on the street. Servant hearts at their finest as these kiddos skipped from one piece of trash to the next saying “this is fun!!”

Mrs. O'Loughlin's Weekly Newsletter

Our firefighter fun and learning continues this week!  We will be reading “Fire Truck” by Peter Sis.  Matt is a little boy who loves fire trucks.  One day he wakes up to find that he is a fire truck and goes on all sorts of fire truck adventures!  Using imaginations, the preschoolers will be coming up with some creative writing about what would happen if they became a fire truck!  Fire trucks will be created using shapes.  Rhyming will continue to be a focus.

In worship Jesus heard some arguing and disagreements amongst his disciples over who was greater.  Jesus surprised his followers with who He told them to be like.  Jesus tells us to be kind and to serve others.  We will be coming up with ways to show God’s love by serving others!

Reminder: There is no preschool on Friday!

This week we will continue with our butterfly fun!  We should see some more amazing changes in our classroom caterpillars this week and we will be sure to record all of the changes in our science journals.  We will also begin to create our meadow mural.  We will use this mural as a backdrop for a butterfly play we will have fun with next week.  We will also put together our life cycle posters with the different multimedia artwork we have created over the past week for each step in the life cycle of the butterfly.  Watch for these amazing posters to come home at the end of the week.

In worship we will hear about how the followers of Jesus had a little argument over who was the greatest.  They were really surprised by what Jesus had to say about that!  We learn how important it is to serve one another and we might some up with some wonderful serving ideas.

The is no preschool this Friday.

In worship this week we will learn about a time when Jesus friends were arguing over who was the greatest.  Jesus surprised them all by saying a little child is the greatest, and he loves little children just as much as any grown up.  Jesus always had time for children and loved being around them.

We are getting excited for our field trip on the 20th.  Thanks to the parents who signed up to go along with us!  If you are unable to go, I will let you know this week who your child will ride with so that we can know where car seats should go on the morning of the 20th.  We are planning to leave as soon after 9:00 that morning as possible.

Chapel, Butter Making and Clay Fun - Mrs. King

We had a busy morning and enjoyed digging our fingers into some clay with Mrs. Hein.  We made pinch pots and used toothpicks to draw designs on then.  Such fun!

We made butter in baby food jars by shaking and shaking and shaking until the liquid cream turned into soft spreadable butter! At home you can put the pat of butter in some cheese cloth or a towel to remove the last bit of buttermilk.  Enjoy!

A favorite activity today was using our imaginations with the barns and farm animals!

A Big Hug - Mrs. O'Loughlin and Mrs. Krantz

Our morning started with chapel and Ms Ann told us how God loves us and when we’re lost He is looking for us. When He finds us, He’ll give us a big hug and throw us a party!

Mrs. Hein came and brought clay! Ask your preschooler what they made!

Chrysalis - Mrs. Krantz

Today we learned about the third step in the life cycle of a butterfly... the chrysalis!  Soon we will see that happen in out classroom with our caterpillars.  They are growing really, really fast!  We made our own chrysalis art to add to our life cycle posters that will hopefully be done next week!

Firefighters and Preschoolers Work Together - Mrs. O'Loughlin

We found a fantastic similarity between firefighters and preschoolers today: they work together!! We have a fabulous new building manipulative in our classroom and this group took no time at all to work together and build a magnificent creation!

I see many more collaborative creations in our future!

Giggles - Mrs. Krantz

What fun it is to see the delight in the eyes and hear the giggles of the preschoolers as they watched our classroom caterpillars crawl around their home!  Our science journals are off to a great start as we watch the amazing changes that will happen in the coming weeks.

Cows! - Mrs. King

After a great time playing outside in the snow we so enjoyed reading, “Click Clack Moo,” together. We painted cows and reenacted the store with cow puppets and keyboards!

So many of our preschoolers were excited to see our play kitchen back in the classroom. We cooked up so many yummy dishes.

Papa Ken came and helped our class with woodworking today. Our class loves visits from Papa Ken!!

Small World Play - Mrs. O'Loughlin

In our classroom this morning there was a big firehouse with big firefighters! And a little firehouse with little firefighters! Imaginative play and storytelling was a big part of our centers time as preschoolers rushed to put fires out all over dressed in firefighter hats and jackets. There was also little fires that little fire trucks rushed to! Our day ended with the book “Big Firefighter, Little Firefighter”. It was perfect after a morning of big and little play!

In worship, the preschoolers heard a story about a dad and his son. Ask your preschooler how the dad reacted when the son returned home. Was he mad?

Thursday is chapel at 9:20am over at the sanctuary!

When I Grow Up - Mrs. O'Loughlin

I want to be a fire fighter! The preschoolers all imagined what it would be like to be a firefighter. They would climb ladders, drive in fire trucks and of course, put out fires! We drew pictures of us as firefighters as we listened to our firefighter song!

Wednesday is chapel!

Butterfly Lifecycle - Mrs. Krantz

After our week of conferences, we were ready to dive back into some super fun learning together.  We started our butterfly learning today and talked about the first two steps in the life cycle of a butterfly.  The first step is the egg, second is the larvae, which is the caterpillar!  We put some eggs on a leaf and began painting a caterpillar.  We will make each of the step of the life cycle in class!

We also saw out classroom caterpillars for the first time today.  They aren't too big, but we will watch them grow and change.  We will keep track of these changes in our science journals!

Get ready for sirens, trucks, ladders and hoses!  We’re jumping in with both feet into our Firehouse Unit!  This week we’ll be learning a new song; “I Want to be a Firefighter”.  This is a full body, interactive song that the preschoolers are going to love!  We will be reading lots of great firefighter books, having fun in our new dramatic play that has been transformed into a firehouse, complete with dispatch center, and be coming up with some creative story telling in our small world area!

During our worship time, we will discover that we can show God’s love to our families by showing kindness and forgiveness.  Chapel is on Wednesday and Thursday at 9:20am in the sanctuary at the church.

The Art Show is tonight at 6pm!  Thank you to all who have helped make it a success!  We can’t wait to share our results from the fundraiser and see if all us teachers get to kiss that pig!
