Mrs. King's Weekly Newsletter

We have just two weeks left in our preschool year!  Each day I am amazed at how much our preschoolers have learned and grown over the past school year.  I have grown to love your children so much!  I am so looking forward to these last weeks and all the fun end of the year activities we have planned.

On Tuesday we will have Superhero Day! Your preschooler is welcome to dress up as the superhero of their choice.  Masks are ok as long as they are not frightening.  Please keep in mind pretend weapons of any kind need to be left at home.  Tuesday is also our LAST SHARE day!  I wish all our parents could see the difference in our first share day and our last!  What progress!

Our last chapel with Pastor Matt and Ms. Ann is on Thursday, along with our last ART with Mrs. Hein.  We have appreciated them and their dedication to our preschoolers all year!

Thursday, May 24th is our Closing Program and Graduation!  We will begin promptly at 6pm and we try to keep it at 30 minutes.  This is such a fun evening for your preschoolers to sing a couple songs for you and for us to say goodbye to our friends going in to Kindergarten.  All family is invited!   Please plan to stay for the reception that follows.  Please bring a finger food or dessert to share at the reception!

Our last day party has been planned and signups to bring items can be found on our Facebook page! Our group is having a Beach Party. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend these very fun parties!

A heads up, the teachers will not be blogging for the last two weeks of preschool.  But we will be posting pictures and updates to the preschool Facebook page!

Pajama Day - Mrs. Krantz

Today was pajama day and we loved being comfy and cozy in our jammies.  Blankets and stuffed animals also made the day extra special.  We decorated and ate donuts for a special snack.  Yum!  We the tunnel and tents were a favorite of the morning!

Pajama Day - Mrs. O'Loughlin

We had the best cozy morning in our jammies! After reading The Napping House, the preschoolers had opportunity to retell the story by using sequencing. One preschooler noted that the nappers got smaller as they stack up on each other! Lacing cereal necklaces, reading in our cozy tents, and painting pictures of lovies made for a very fun morning.

This group finished up a special Mother’s Day surprise! Preschoolers love their moms!!

Tuesday is Superhero Day!! Feel free to wear a superhero costume!

Listening - Mrs. Krantz

This morning we talked about all of the sounds we hear outside and read a fun poem with all kinds of sound words.  Maybe you can spend some time listening with your preschooler and naming the sounds you hear together!

We've been enjoying all of the plans the preschoolers made for the last weeks of our time together.  Stenciling, pizza shop and playing in the sand were all top choices today!

Learning Together - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Our board Game Day was so much fun! Watching this group work together, play together and learn together makes this teachers heart melt!

The beautiful weather had the preschoolers running around pretending to be pirate birds and cheetahs! The flowers are now well watered and sand castles were built. We love learning together outside too!

Thursday is Pajama Day!! Cereal will be served for snack!

Down by the Station - Mrs. King

Today we learned about trains and read books about trains and talked about where we would go. I love hearing our preschoolers responses about the places they’ve been and love to go. We planned trips to the park and even far away to visit friends and family!

Our painting activity was especially fun! We drove cars and trains through the paint!

Rainy Day - Mrs. Krantz

Rainy days can be a lot of fun!  We read a poem about rainy days and decided the poem was written in a grumpy mood.  We decided to read the poem using other moods to interpret the poem.  That was a ton of fun!  We also enjoyed playing outside in the misty rain!

Wednesday is Pajama Day.  Preschoolers are invited to wear jammies and bring a stuffed animal or blanket!

Board Game Day - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Playing board games provide so many wonderful learning opportunities for preschoolers! They teach important social skills such as communicating verbally, sharing, waiting, taking turns, and enjoying interaction with others. Board games can foster the ability to focus, and lengthen your child's attention span by encouraging the completion of a game. Many of the games we enjoyed today had letter and number recognition, color identification and even a need for some engineering!

Wednesday is Pajama Day!! Your preschooler is welcome to wear their jammies and bring a special lovey! No need for snack because we will be having cereal!

It seems impossible that we only have 3 weeks left!  What a fun year we have had together.

Last week the preschoolers made a list of things they wanted to do before preschool is over, so we are doing them!  This week we will be working with stencils, watercolors, play do and we will re-open the pizza store in dramatic play!  Pajama Day is on Wednesday and Thursday.  Preschoolers are welcome to wear their pajamas and bring a special stuffed animal and/or blanket!

We will also be getting ready for our closing program.  We will be having a few rehearsals in the coming weeks!

In worship we will learn about how God changed the heart of a man named Saul!

Signups to bring items for our last day parties can be found on our Facebook page!  T/TH group is having a Beach Party and M/W/F will be celebrating with a Carnival!  Families are welcome and encouraged to attend these very fun parties!

The main excitement of the weekend is that our butterflies needed to be released outside!  I am disappointed that it did not workout to do this on a school day, but there is a certain window recommended for their release.  Enjoy the picture of our little friends who are set free!

This week we will continue to explore different modes of transportation.  We will read books about trains:  Down By The Station by Will Hillenbrand, and The Little Engine that Could.

In worship we will learn about Saul who became Paul when he met Jesus on the road to Damascus.  He was a new man and began telling everyone about how he was changed!

During these last 3 weeks of school we will enjoy some spirit days at preschool.  Look at the schedule and see what fun things we will be doing!

Blessings,
Amber

Another day the preschoolers planned was pajama day!  On Wednesday and Thursday, your preschooler is welcome to wear their pajamas and bring a special lovey with them!

Your preschoolers also planned to have much of our days spent outside.  Sunscreen, hats and water bottles will be a great idea this coming week!

During worship we will hear about the amazing change of Saul to Paul!  We will focus on how great God’s love for us is!

Butterfly Excitement - Mrs. King

We enjoyed seeing our butterflies this morning! What fun to see our preschoolers so excited for their transformation!

We also enjoyed chapel and learning about how Saul met Jesus and saw a blinding light! Saul’s meeting changed him forever and he changed his name to Paul!

Shadows - Mrs. Krantz

Our morning was bustling with energy!  We worked with rhyming words, worshiped together at chapel with Mrs. O'Loughlin's and Mrs. King's classes, played outside, and enjoyed centers in the classroom and on the deck.  One of our outside activities was drawing the tree shadows on the sidewalk!

What Does a Tree Need? - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Our morning started off with chapel; one of our favorite times at preschool. We learned about Saul seeing a bright light. Ask your preschooler what happened to Sauls eyes!

Each of your preschoolers came home with a little tree sapling. Ask your kiddo what that tree needs in order to grow tall!

Cleaning Your Room - Mrs. Krantz

We had a lot of fun talking about cleaning our rooms!  Some of us have very clean rooms all the time, some of us don't.  Some of us prefer clean rooms and others prefer messy rooms.  It was a lively and fun discussion!

We had more fun with bubble art and enjoyed our worship time at chapel.

Goodbye Butterflies - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Our 5 little butterflies were in need of release today. We brought the enclosure outside in hopes of acclimating our friends. They immediately began fluttery and moving around in the fresh air and warm sun. After some goodbyes, we opened the enclosure and out they flew! To the delight of the preschoolers, 2 of the butterflies decided to make the backyard their home.

Transportation: How People Get Around - Mrs. King

This morning we learned so much about how people get around.  We counted wheels on trains, airplanes, cars and more!  Our preschoolers explored many different kinds of transportation and were involved in so much cooperative play with cars, trucks and anything with wheels!

We also enjoyed having Mrs. Hein come and share an art project with us and Papa Ken came for woodworking too!

Spinning Wheel! - Mrs. O'Loughlin and Mrs. Krantz

We are so blessed by the members of Concordia Lutheran Church! Today, Nancy brought in her spinning wheel to show us how she makes yarn from wool. Each preschooler had an opportunity to use the wheel and make their own yarn!

Thank you Nancy for providing such unique experiences to these kiddos!

Gardening - Mrs. O'Loughlin

These little gardeners were busy today! We enjoyed a morning filled with flowers that needed to be planted, watered and of course picked! A number game was played trying to find the missing trowel. And beans now sit in our sunny window just waiting to sprout and grow!

Ask your preschooler about Barnabas. How did he show the love of Jesus to other people?! A couple new songs rounded out our worship time!

Bath Time! - Mrs. Krantz

This morning we had some fun discussing bath time!  We talked about water, bubbles and drying off.  We also discovered that dogs don't dry off the same way we do!

We loved washing our babies in the warm soapy bathtub (sensory table) and creating art with colored bubbles.

In worship we learned about sharing, kindness and giving.  These are ways we are changed into the likeness of Jesus!

Sunday, April 29, 2018

Mrs. King's Weekly Newsletter

This week we will begin our last unit of the school year (crazy!) on Transportation!   Our main book will start us off called, "Transportation: How People Get Around," by Gail Gibbons.  I am excited to explore different kinds of transportation and build vehicles.  We will have lots of outdoor time and activities to encourage new cooperative and dramatic play.  I am so proud of our preschoolers in how they have grown and developed in their ability to play together!

(Since our butterflies have not yet emerged from their chrysalises we will continue to talk about that and watch for them of course.)

In worship we will learn about one of Jesus's followers named Barnabas!  The whole church of believers together shared their things and took care of one another.  We will have chapel on Thursday at 9:20.

I hope that you will join us at Concordia for Preschool Sunday Worship this Sunday at 10am. Let me know if you have any questions and we are hoping to see you there!

With the last month here, stay tuned for some fun activities we are planning for the last days of school!

Blessings,
Amber

This is going to get us all ready for Friday’s field trip to the Garden Center at Pullman Building Supply.  If you have not had a chance, please take a moment to sign up to drive and include any siblings that will be joining us!  This field trip is for both classes!!

During our worship time, the preschoolers will hear a story about a man named Barnabas, who shared the love of Jesus by simply sharing!!  Chapel is on Wednesday and Thursday at 9:20am.  Family is always welcome to join us for worship!

In worship we will learn about how Barnabas shared the love of Jesus just by sharing.  Chapel is on Wednesday and Thursday at 9:20am.  Family is always welcome to join us!

Caterpillars and Chrysalis - Mrs. King

We are so excited that our caterpillars have finally made a chrysalis!! We made our own chrysalises with toilet paper tubes and read a book called, “Some Bugs.” The book has fabulous illustrations of many amazing bugs and insects!

Preschool Outside! - Mrs. O'Loughlin

We are so blessed to have the outdoor space that we do! Our entire morning was spent outside blowing bubbles, painting symmetrical art, investigating bugs, building, creating, running, playing...learning!! It was a fabulous preschool day!

Ask your preschooler about the man outside the church. What happened after the mans legs were healed?!

Thursday is SHARE Day!!

A Morning at Taylor Farms - Mrs. Krantz

Many thanks to the Taylors for welcoming our class out to your farm and teaching us about all of the incredible farm equipment!  We had a great time!

Sunshine! - Mrs. Krantz

Sunshine is a beautiful thing!  We spent almost our entire morning outside after enjoying science with Mr. Levi.  Outside we had a bubble station, built sandcastles, created buildings out of logs, ran up and down the hill, wrote letters and drew pictures and did some balancing.

In worship we learned about a man who couldn't walk and was healed.  Ask you preschooler about it!

Science, Symmetry and Sunshine! - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Our morning started out with science! Mr. Levi talked to us about clouds. He even made a cloud in a jar. We did an experiment with rain clouds too. Ask your preschooler what type of cloud is formed when hot air and cold air mix together!

Outside, we enjoyed the sunshine all morning! The preschoolers explored the idea of symmetry by creating squish art. We also built on mirrors. Whatever was built, the reflection was symmetrical: the same on both sides!

Ask your preschooler what was wrong with the man outside the church. And in who’s name healed him?!

Mrs. O'Loughlin's Weekly Newsletter

All 5 of our caterpillars molted for the last time and have turned into chrysalides! More scientific drawing will be added to the preschoolers butterfly science journals and now we wait for those butterflies to emerge!

On Monday and Tuesday, Mr. Levi is here for science.  During this visit he will bring some weather experiments as he discusses meteorology with the preschoolers.

Mrs. King so wonderfully planned for a WSU entomologist to come visit the preschool on Thursday!  He will be bringing some pretty amazing insects along with him for us to see and even touch!  M/W/F group is welcome to join us over at the church at 10:15am!

We are an energetic group who loves to run and jump and stomp...but what if we couldn’t do those things?!  In worship, we will hear about a man whose legs didn’t work.  But in Jesus’ name and in His mighty love, He healed the man!

Our Preschool Sunday is just one week away and we are so very excited!  Please plan on joining us for this special service at 10am!  Immediately following, there will be a BBQ potluck and this is where all the teachers and Pastor Matt will be giving Sweetie the Pig a big ol’ smooch!  You’ll want to be there for that!

SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday!

What a fun week we have planned!  On Monday we will start off with Science with Mr. Levi.  This is always a favorite!  On Tuesday our T/Th group will be taking our field trip out to the Taylor Farm.  I'll be sending a separate email to those families with all of the details for the trip.  The rest of the week we will be having fun with the song/poem "Ten in the Bed."  We will be rolling, jumping and moving to the words and will create a manipulative set to take home.

On Thursday we will have the opportunity to see some crawly creatures!  The young preschool class is having a guest bug guy and we get to jump in on the fun.  M/W/F kids are welcome to join us over at the church at 9:45.

We will be taking advantage of the sunshine this week, so we will be outside more than usual.  Please apply sunscreen before preschool if you want your child to have it on.  We are not able to apply it at preschool.

In worship, we will learn about the healing of the lame man.  We will continue to sing our worship songs and pray together.

I hope that you will join us at Concordia for Preschool Sunday Worship on April 29th at 10am.  A flyer was in your child's box this week giving more information.  The service will be on the shorter side and very kid friendly!  We are really looking forward to it!  A BBQ potluck will be held after the service and then the Preschool Teachers and Pastor Matt will kiss Sweetie the Pig!  You won't want to miss that!

Have a great weekend!

The past couple of weeks we've learned this song about the life cycle of a butterfly to the tune of, "The Itsy Bitsy Spider."

"The fuzzy little caterpillar
Curled up upon a leaf,
She spun her little chrysalis and
then fell fast asleep.
While she was sleeping she
Dreamed that she could fly
And later when she woke up
She was a butterfly!"

We've been having so much fun exploring bugs and caterpillars and butterflies.  This week we are looking forward to some special creepy crawly visitors!  On Thursday we will have an Entomology student come visit our class and bring some of his bug collection to show our preschoolers.  His name is Logan Hope and we are so thankful for the connection through Shanell, Aster's mom.

In worship we will learn about one of Jesus' miracles!  He made a lame man be able to walk again!  We will talk about who Jesus is and how everything He did on earth shows us what our Father in heaven is like!

How is it possible that we are getting ready for our last month of preschool? I reflect almost every morning of preschool on the progress these sweet little ones have made.  I am so very proud of them and so thankful that your families chose Concorida and I have been so blessed to be their teacher!

Favorite Time of Day - Mrs. Krantz

It was determined through  a collection of data and opinions that Mrs. Krantz was the only person in class that is not a morning person!  Everyone else loves the morning!  We even charted it.

Chapel was wonderful as usual and the sunshine was very welcome as we played and explored outside!  Inside we enjoyed painting portraits of our families.

A Butterfly Play - Mrs. O' Loughlin

Your preschoolers performed their butterfly play today! After weeks of working on the mural and their props, they were ready! Not only were our performers fantastic, but so were the audience members!

Ask your preschooler if they can give you their own version at home!

Hello and Goodbye - Mrs. Krantz

Today we had fun learning a new song about the different times of the day and what we do during those times.  We also talked about greeting one another and saying goodbye.  We read "The Hello, Goodbye Window" by Norton Juster for the first time and we will be engaging more with this book over time.

We worked hard addressing envelopes with special notes for our friends and family.  I love seeing the preschoolers have so much fun writing!

Busy Monday - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Right away this morning we had a practice fire drill. This group did a fabulous job and you should be very proud of them!

Back in the classroom, we recorded some changes to our caterpillars in our science journals. Ask your preschooler what changes they are seeing!

As a group we acted out the 4 stages of the butterfly life cycle. It’s so cute watching all these preschoolers transform into an egg, then a crawling caterpillar, then a chrysalis hanging upside down and finally a butterfly fluttering around the room! Such fun!

Chapel is on Wednesday!

We have another super week planned for our unit on Butterflies and bugs!  Our preschoolers are loving watching our caterpillars grow and change and hopefully soon they will be making their chrysalis's.  We will make chrysalis crafts and prepare all the stages of the butterfly metamorphosis.

In worship we will learn about how he ascended into heaven after his resurrection and Jesus lives today!  Jesus said even though He was leaving for heaven He would be with His disciples and friends always! Mrs. O'Loughlin's Weekly Newsletter

The preschoolers have loved watching their caterpillars and seeing the changes that have occurred in just one week!  These changes are being recorded in our scientific journals.  Camouflage will be explored as well as the 3rd and 4th stage of the butterfly lifecycle.  Each stage is being created by your preschoolers and added to a Butterfly Lifecycle mobile.  These will be sent home at the end of the week.

Our beautiful meadow mural is complete!  This coming week, the preschoolers will be creating both a bird and a butterfly to use in our Butterfly Play!

In worship we will be working on some special prayer journal pictures and learning about how Jesus is alive today!  Chapel is on Wednesday and Thursday at 9:20am.  Family is always welcome to attend!

Preschool Sunday is set for April 29 with worship starting at 10am. This is paired with our Kiss the Pig Event!  We will have a BBQ with potluck side dishes and desserts after the service.  Once we are done eating... the preschool teachers and Pastor Matt will kiss a pig!   Watch for posters in your mailbox!

Have a fantastic weekend!
Elizabeth

Mrs. Krantz's Weekly Newsletter

We have another fun week planned for our unit on Homes!  This week we will learn a song called "In the Morning."  This song will talk about the different times of day and what we do during those times.  We will be practicing following directions, working to understand that print runs left to right and top to bottom, and will play some letter identification games!  SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday this week!

In worship we will be working on some special prayer journal pictures and learning about how Jesus  is alive today!  Chapel is on Wednesday and Thursday at 9:20am.  Family is always welcome to attend!

The sign up sheet for our T/Th class field trip is on the closet door.  We will be visiting the Taylor Farm on April 24.

Preschool Sunday is set for April 29 with worship starting at 10am. Just a note, on Monday morning I will be a few minutes late to preschool as my son has an early orthodontist appointment, but I will be just a touch late.  Ms. Tietjen will do a great job with the kids while I am gone.  I will also be gone on Thursday and Friday this week for some personal days.  Ms. Baty will fill in on Thursday and Mrs. Wilson will fill in on Friday.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Becky

Neighborhoods - Mrs. Krantz

Today we thought about all the different rooms that could be in someone's home.  We made quite the list of all the different rooms.  I encourage you to go through your home with your preschooler and count the number of rooms in your home!

We also have been building neighborhoods in the classroom.  We have a neighborhood of paper bag homes above the windows.  Today we added a neighborhood of homes built from paper strips in the stairway! Take a moment to look at these beautiful neighborhoods!

Caterpillars are Growing! - Mrs. King

Today we enjoyed seeing how much our caterpillars have grown in just 2 days!  They are eating and growing so fast!

We enjoyed a busy morning with art with Mrs. Hein and we were busy preparing for preschool Sunday that will be in just a few weeks!

Making Prints with Mrs. Hein - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Mrs. Hein came in today and taught us how to make prints! A picture was created and then etched into a piece of foam. They all turned out as beautiful and unique as the preschooler who made them!

Art Prints - Mrs. Krantz

We did so many fun things this morning.  We started out searching for the letters H and M in our poster.  It is amazing how fun the preschoolers find this type of game!  They used our red pointer to point out the letters.  We made some video recordings that will be used on Preschool Sunday during the worship service.

Papa Joe came and read to us and Mrs. Hein made prints with us for Art!  This class has a field trip on Friday.  Watch for an email with all of the details!

Springtime Discoveries - Mrs. O'Loughlin

During spring break, some pretty fantastic changes happened in our play areas! Leaves are beginning to emerge from their buds on the trees, bees can be heard buzzing around, beautiful flowers are in bloom, and bug discoveries are under every rock! We love spring!

Mrs. Hein was here for art and sticking with the springtime feeling, taught the preschoolers how to make stamps of a butterfly! They turned out beautiful!

Different Homes - Mrs. Krantz

While I had not planned on making a list this morning, the preschoolers had so many great ideas to share about the different types of homes in the world, we made a list!  It was very long and I was so happy to hear the kids share their knowledge about different dwellings that people might live in.  While each was different, they were all homes.

We got outside before the rain and enjoyed the fresh air and all the new signs of spring popping up in the yard.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Mrs. King

We began our morning with this classic storybook. It was such fun to see how many preschoolers already knew and loved this one.

We glued and made our very own very hungry caterpillars. I’m reminded of how much our preschoolers have grown and learned this year especially when glue and small sequins and papers are involved! They amaze me everyday!

In worship we sang and enjoyed one of our favorite songs, “My God is so Great!!” There is so much enthusiasm for this song around our circle 😊😊.

Bug Safari - Mrs. O'Loughlin

The preschoolers had quite an adventure today! Armed with binoculars, tweezers, and nets, they set off on a bug safari throughout the classroom. There were small bugs that were easy to capture and a few larger preschooler size bugs that kept getting away! I love watching their imagination at work in their play!

Ask your preschooler about the first two stages of the butterfly lifecycle! And which stage is in our very own classroom!

Our mural is beginning to take shape! Check it out on Thursday!

Neighbors - Mrs. Krantz

We are so glad to be back in preschool with our friends!  I was so happy to see how kind and welcoming our class was to our new student and we are so happy to have a new friend with us!

We talked about neighbors and what a neighbor was.  As we go through our "Home" unit, we will talk a lot about neighbors, neighborhoods and how those don't always look the same around the world.  Even in our own town, our homes can look different.

It was really good to be back playing with each other!  Centers time was full of energy and excitement and all kinds of wonderful play!
