Mrs. Krantz's Weekly Newsletter

Welcome to 2018!  Preschool resumes on Wednesday and we will start the year off with SHARE Day on both Wednesday and Thursday.  What fun it will be to see the special items the preschoolers bring!  Please remember to help them choose one item!

We will be learning about The Three Wisemen following the star to Baby Jesus and so we will have some fun with shapes and making stars.

At the beginning of January, I always share with parents that some children have a short time of difficulty re-entering preschool.  This is very normal.  We are very equipped to help with a smooth transition for your preschooler.  As always, please let me know if you have concerns.

Please remember to send outdoor gear including hats and gloves/mittens.  We do plan to play outside if the weather is above 25 degrees and not raining.  Please double check your child's set of extra clothing to make sure it still fits and is season appropriate.

When there is snow on the ground, good snow to play in, please bring your preschooler to preschool fully ready in his/her snow gear.  We will play outside first thing in the morning so that we don't have 30 minutes of prep to just get outside for outdoor play!

I'm looking forward to 2018 with your preschoolers and with you!

Happy New Year,
Becky

Caring for Babies - Mrs. Krantz

What fun it is to take care of babies!  Our classroom babies have been well cared for lately, just like Mary and Joseph took care of baby Jesus after he was born!

We wrapped up special gifts today, created nativity stick puppets and decorated trees, all as we thought about the beautiful gift of Jesus!

Star Over Bethlehem - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Beautiful watercolor creations were painted today! Your preschoolers chose each color and brushed it in the exact spot they wanted. These Bethlehem skies turned out amazing! A Bethlehem city skyline will be added and these masterpieces will be revealed at our Art Show!

Tuesday is our Happy Birthday Jesus party! Have a wonderful weekend!

Addy's Last Visit - Mrs. King

This morning Addy the Advent Angel joined us for one last time from Italy! We learned that kids in Italy sing Christmas Carols and have a manger for the baby Jesus. The manger stays empty until Christmas Day when Jesus appears!

We had a visit from a flute player who played Christmas carols for us as we sang along. We even got our own "flutes," to play with her!

Don't forget that Thursday is pajama day!! Wear your pajamas, slippers and bring a stuffed animal along with you if you'd like to!

Music! - Mrs. Krantz

We are so thankful to have people volunteer and invest time in our preschool children!  Many thanks to Ginny Hauser who visited us today and shared beautiful flute music with us as well as the story of "The Friendly Beasts."  What a wonderful musical morning we had together!  We even had our own little flutes to play along on the last song!

Tis the Season for Friends - Mrs. O'Loughlin

I have seen so much growth in the preschooler’s friendships this past month! Negotiating with peers is a big developmental building block and this group is doing so well! Watching them build, talk through and problem solve is my favorite part of our learning through play philosophy.

Addy told us about Christmas in Italy and all the beautiful music and carols. We were blessed with a lovely flute presentation and sang some of our favorite carols!

Animals - Mrs. Krantz

What fun Christmas around the world can be!  We learned today that in Denmark, they sometimes give gifts to their animals!  We thought about what we might give our animal friends.  There were a lot of really good ideas.

In worship we heard the amazing true story of the birth of Jesus!  What a wonderful birthday story.  And, Jesus was born for each one of us.  What an amazing gift!

Our class continues to build more intricate structures during centers time.  Today chairs were built along with a table.  A house and Bible building was also created.  I love to hear them talk through the process with each other, negotiate and compromise as they work to create a structure together!

Jesus is Born! - Mrs. O'Loughlin

In worship today, we heard about Jesus being born! Ask your preschooler where Mary put Jesus to sleep? The preschoolers sang beautiful praises about God’s son and how He was born for us!

Addy told us about Christmas in Germany! They love Christmas trees, Christmas cookies and Christmas carols! Mrs. O’Loughlin’s brother was in Germany and recorded beautiful choir music. We listened to the blessing song as we passed around ornaments from Germany!

We will go out if the weather is above 25 degrees. Be sure to send in gloves each day so those little fingers stay warm. Also, this is a good time to check change of clothes to make sure they are cold weather appropriate!

Mrs. King's Weekly Newsletter

We are really looking forward to an extra fun, festive week at preschool.  On Tuesday we will have one last visit from Addy the Advent Angel and she will come to see us from Italy.  We will have a visiting flute player come to teach all the preschool classes about the tradition of caroling in Italy at 9:30 on Tuesday.  Such fun!

On Thursday we have our much awaited pajama day!  Your preschooler can wear pajamas, slippers and bring a stuffed animal or friend to school!  We will have the lights down low and enjoy flashlights, glow paint, glow sticks and other fun Christmas activities.

Our goal is to go outside and play each day that the temperature is above 25 degrees.  Now that our weather is cold, please remember to send a hat, gloves or mittens and a warm coat.  Please label each item with your child's name.  At drop off, leaving the gear in your child's backpack seems to be quickest way for us to find them when we suit up. Thanks for helping us make this transition smooth!

We will be holding a "Happy Birthday Jesus" party on December 19th.  There is an online sign up event the Mrs. Krantz posted on the Facebook group if you are interested in helping with that event!

Advent in Bethlehem - Mrs. King

This morning Addy the Advent Angel flew in from Bethlehem to tell us all about how Advent is celebrated there.  Bethlehem is a most special town because it is where the baby Jesus was born!

In worship, we learned about how the Angel Gabriel visited Mary and told her that Jesus would be born.  I am so thankful for the privilege of hearing your children's voices singing
"Away in a Manger," and learning motions to go along.  Words cannot describe the preciousness!  We are having so much fun celebrating the season at preschool.

We enjoyed the sunshine so much outside today even thought it was cold.  We even walked through some snow and found frozen sand in our sandbox!

On Thursday, we are really looking forward to a special presentation from the Lincoln Middle School Orchestra called "Giving Bach."  This will begin at 10:00 in our church basement.

Ornaments - Mrs. Krantz

It was quite frosty this morning, but not quite cold enough to keep us inside!  We had so much fun exploring frozen things... and turned pine cones and leaves into ice skating fairies!  I love imagination!

Inside we learned about Christmas in Brazil and created ornaments to be hung on you tree at home... once they have dried!

In worship, we learned about the good news that Gabriel shared with Mary... she was to be the mother on the Messiah!  What amazing news!

Waiting for the First Star - Mrs. O'Loughlin

In Poland,  boys and girls wait for the first star to shine in the star on Christmas Eve as this marks the beginning of the celebration! Ask your preschooler what they found under their name tags at snack time! It’s something that people in Poland use to remind them of the Christ child!

In worship Mary heard some great news! Ask your preschooler who told her she was going to be Jesus’ mommy!

On Thursday we have a special treat! Students from Lincoln Middle School will come and give a musical presentation for us!  They will show the instruments they will bring with them and even let preschoolers try out some!

Our worship time will be about the Angel who brought good news to Mary of the coming Messiah!  We will begin learning to sing Away in a Manger with motions.
