"Those Noodles! They're A Changin'" - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Our morning started by reading a poem together called "Oodles of Noodles".  After deciding the word oodles meant lots, we came up with some silly nonsense words to rhyme with noodles. Ask your preschooler if they can remember any!

We had lots more noodle fun at centers as we observed spaghetti noodles in water. As one preschooler so perfectly stated "those noodles! They're a changin'!" These little scientists recorded the changes they saw!

There is no preschool next week! There is childcare during your conference time. See you all at conferences!

Teamwork - Mrs. Krantz

This morning we finished up the seasons with the season of Fall.  We talked through our art and which season matched our artwork.  The preschoolers are very excited to share their artwork with everyone at the Art Show next Friday evening.

We enjoyed teamwork activities today in the form of puzzle building and a big Candyland carpet game.  We also made colorful bookmarks and worked on wood sculptures.  Art with Mrs. Hein finished up our day with art.

Just a reminder that preschool will not be in session next week as we have parent teacher conferences.  Childcare is available during your conference time.

Busy Morning - Mrs. Krantz

We had a busy morning full of all kinds of excitement!  We finished  up self portraits, named artwork, talked about the season of summer, enjoyed science with MR. Levi and made an amazing art project with Mrs. Hien and Papa Joe helped!

If you haven't signed up for a conference time yet, please do so.  Conferences are next week!

There is a sign up sheet in the lobby for anyone who wants to volunteer to help with the set up of the art show or provide some cookies!

And the Fastest Liquid Is... - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Syrup!! The preschoolers loved exploring Fluid Dynamics in science today. They were sure soap would slide down the ramp faster, but syrup had less viscosity and took first prize!

Papa Joe was here today and played board games with the preschoolers! They absolutely were delighted to challenge him to multiple games of Connect 4! Sifting through rice to find letters in the sensory, creating some springtime flowers, and counting practice rounded out our centers!

Mrs. Hein was also here today! Ask your preschooler to describe the art project we did.

If you have not done so, please sign up for a conference so I can have the pleasure of doting over your kiddo! Conferences are next week!

Liquid Viscosity - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Today Mr. Levi talked to us about liquid density and viscosity. (We love those robust words at preschool!) There were five types of liquids and the preschoolers hypothesized which liquid would run down the ramp fastest. Ask your preschooler which liquid they thought would win the race. And see if they remember which liquid took first place!

During centers we further explored liquid density as the preschooler painted! They also created sensory bags!

In worship we talked about prayer. God listens and hears us no matter where we are or what we are doing! He listens because He loves us!

Fluid Dynamics - Mrs. Krantz

Science with Mr. Levi was pretty amazing as we learned about fluid dynamics.  We learned some robust words, our favorite word being "viscous."  We grabbed a small window of opportunity to play outside for about 15 minutes.  We walked across to the church yard where it isn't so muddy and enjoyed the fresh air and large open space.

We are making finishing touches to artshow artwork and talking about the season.  We worked on one last spring project this morning too!

Coming Up in Mrs. Krantz's Class

I hope you are having a fabulous long weekend!  There is no preschool on Monday in observance of President's Day.

This week we will be working to finish up all our preparations for the upcoming "Season of Art" Art Show.  Plan to join us on the evening of March 3, 6:00pm-7:30pm for a fancy evening of art and finger foods.  There will be a silent auction and our raffle drawing will take place that night.  In the next few days a Facebook event will be created that lists all the raffle items, along with pictures and the silent auction items with descriptions.  We are hopeful that each family will try to sell 3-4 raffle tickets to family and friends.  Please check out tickets from Mrs. Krantz or speak with Mrs. O'Loughlin.

We will also have some great science fun with Mr. Levi this week and Art with Mrs. Hein.  In worship we will learn about Jesus teaching his disciples, and us, how to pray.

Conferences are the following week, February 27-March 3.  Please sign up for your 20 minute slot on the closet door upstairs.  There is no preschool that week, but child care is available during your conference time.

Have a great weekend!

Coming Up In Mrs. O'Loughlin's Class

First off, a quick reminder that there is NO preschool this Monday, in honor of President’s Day.

We will be busy finishing up preparations for our Seasons of Art art show this week! Your little artists have been working hard and have created many beautiful pieces of art! Please plan to join us Friday, March 3rd at 6-7:30pm at Concordia Church.  We will have appetizers and refreshments for you to enjoy as you marvel at all the amazing art!  This is also our one and only fundraiser for the year.   If you are interested in buying or selling raffle tickets for some fantastic prizes, please let me or Mrs. Krantz know. We will also have a silent auction that evening.  All monies raised go directly back to Concordia Lutheran Preschool!   Invite your family and friends too!

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Mr. Levi will be bringing us some fun science learning AND Mrs. Hein will be here for one more art lesson before the art show!  We are so blessed with volunteers who share their skill and interests with the preschoolers!

In worship we will hear how Jesus taught his disciples to pray.  We will discover that just like the disciples, we can always talk to God and He will always listen!  The preschoolers love to sing and much of our worship time is spent sending praises up to heaven!

Conferences begin next week, February 27th – March 3rd.  There is no school during the week of conferences but childcare is available for your children during your conference time.

Praying health, rest, and blessings on your weekend!

Winter and SHARE - Mrs. Krantz

We continue to prepare for our Season of Art art show, so we wrapped up winter today and will be moving on to another season tomorrow.  Of course we had to play with shaving cream snow!  We also had lots of fun hearing all about the special items each preschooler brought today.

In worship we learned about how much Jesus loves each one of us, and how He knows everything about us!  We love singing songs and praying together every day!

We starting building wood sculptures out of fun shaped wood pieces that we have been playing with for a few weeks now.  It is time to put those pieces into art!  Such fun and creativity in the process.

Conference sign ups are on the closet door.  Be sure to sign up!

Water! - Mrs. O'Loughlin

The preschoolers were asked "what do we use water for?" They came up a long list of uses like taking a bath, swimming, putting fires out and watering flowers!

Throughout our morning, we used water a lot! After painting, hand washing was needed. The sensory table was filled with alphabet soup for the preschooler to stir and mix and serve up! The rain fell gently outside watering all our plants. And during worship we discussed how thirsty Jesus and his disciples must have been after walking so far. And how happy they were to come across a well with water! Together we made our own refreshing drink and shared a glass at the tables! Just like we were sharing a yummy drink, we can easily share the good news of Jesus!

Conference sign-ups are in the hallway in the classroom! Please be sure to sign up for a 20 minute slot!

Finally Outside! - Mrs. Krantz

We were delighted to spend some time outside this morning, even in the little bit of rain.  There was running, running and more running!  It was fabulous.

Inside we enjoyed cutting out snowflakes, and art with Mrs. Hein.  We learned a new kind of painting, one that helped us think about spring.

SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday this week!

Alphabet Train! - Mrs. O'Loughlin

One by one, each preschooler joined the alphabet train as they arrived. Watching this group work together to figure out which letter came next (lots of singing the ABCs) and then helping one another searching for the letter ("the letter V is by your foot!") and finally seeing the look of accomplish on each of their little faces was such a wonderful part of today!

I love seeing how much these preschoolers have grown in their ability to work and negotiate with peers!

Friday is SHARE Day!

Raining Hearts - Mrs. O'Loughlin

This rain is a very fun change of pace! How lovely to sing "it's a rainy day!" We talked a lot about weather during opening circle. This discussion led in perfectly to a wonderful book called "The Day It Rained Hearts" by Felecia Bond. The story begins with hearts raining down. Cornelius Augustus runs outside to gather all the hearts up. Ask your preschooler what she does with them!

We love literacy connections at preschool! After we finished the story, the preschoolers created their own page from the story! Fine motor practice was at work as tiny heart stickers were peeled off and placed in just the right spot!

I love how these turned out! Your preschoolers spent a lot of time and care knowing they were going to be given to their moms and dads as a special Valentine card!

Preparations - Mrs. Krantz

We've been busy making preparations for several fun events!  Of course The Heart Cafe is next week, and after the cafe we will be handing out Valentine's to each friend.  (The lists were is last week's email.) We made mailboxes for the special deliveries.  We have also been busy naming our artwork for the Art Show!

Lincoln Logs have also been the craze these past few days.  They preschoolers have been building together and creating some wonderful buildings.  Art with Mrs. Hein also caught their growing attention spans.  Clay is so wonderful to work with!

Counting Hearts - Mrs. Krantz

This morning we took a look at a number line, and then made our own... with hearts!  We practiced our writing skills, number identification skills, counting and one to one correspondence and all through playing!  Numbers 1-6 went home today... perhaps we will work on more!

Centers time has been full of cooperative play these days.  It has been wonderful to see the preschoolers working together to make decision on play and successfully work through conflicts.  This is always an ongoing process, but it is always wonderful to see progression in development!

Valentines Make Us Feel Loved - Mrs. O'Loughlin

We began our morning by reading the poem A Million Valentines! This group agreed that whoever got that many valentines would feel VERY loved! It just so happens that Mrs. Krantz's class read this same poem on Monday and were inspired to make valentines for our class! There sure was a lot of feeling loved and happy as each preschooler received a handmade Valentine from our upstairs friends!

We wanted to continue that love by spending all of centers making valentines for the special people in our lives! Every table (and even some floor space) was filled with hearts and writing and love being poured into each card!

Petco - Mrs. Krantz

We closed out our unit on the Aquarium at Petco today.  We saw some pretty amazing fish and even watched a turtle eat a goldfish!  We also got to see reptiles, hamsters, and birds.  Thanks Petco for a great field trip!

Making Pizza, Eating Pizza - Mrs. O'Loughlin

Our field trip to Pizza Hut today was so much fun! The preschoolers all agreed going into the kitchen was so neat because normally we can't! Each kiddo took part in making a pizza and then we feasted! Mmmm! These little pizza makers made delicious pizzas!

See you all Thursday for some Valentines fun!

Loads of Valentines - Mrs. Krantz

Valentines is in the air!  We read a wonderful poem about cutting out and making millions of Valentines.  Today, we made a lot of them, but not quite a million.  Maybe by the end of the week!  We made special hearts for our friends downstairs.  We also make special heart to be given to anyone in need of a little love.  Cutting with scissors, writing names and words and creating beautiful artwork with love made today a very special day!

Pizza Hut Field Trip - Mrs. O'Loughlin

We had an amazing field trip to Pizza Hut this morning! Everyone got a tour of the entire kitchen, including the freezer and refrigerator! We saw all the soda, dough, and the 90 second dishwasher! Then it was pizza making time! Each preschooler took part in the process. All 5 pizzas came out delicious!!
