Coming Up in Mrs. Krantz's Class

We are excited for 2017 and all that is in store for preschool learning.  As your preschooler returns, we will be diving in deep to some aquarium fun.  We will have an underwater cavern to explore and play in, water and sea animals to play with, wonderful water oriented books, and all kinds of aquarium fun.  Watch for our aquarium hallway to take shape!

In worship we will finish up the birth story of Jesus and the gifts of the wisemen.

On Thursday, we will make up our missed Happy Birthday Jesus party!  We will head over to the church at 9:30am to have science fun with Mr. Levi and then move onto our party fun.  We will head back to preschool around 10:30 for Art with Mrs. Hein.  Family is welcome to attend our party!  No need to pack a snack on Thursday!

Keep in mind that the temperature needs to be 25 degrees or more for us to play outside.  No need to bring snow clothes on days that are super cold.  And be sure to watch for curbside pick up.  If a staff member is standing at the end of the driveway, please use curbside drop off.  Please be careful walking as the ice is slippery.  We do our very best to keep the walkways clear, but please do be extra careful.

Enrollment for next fall opens of January 1.  You should have received an email with an attached form.  Please let me know if you did not receive that email.  Please let anyone who is hoping to enroll next fall know that they should get on the waitlist now.  We do have a 2 day opening in Mrs. O'Loughlin's class right now, so please spread the word.

I'll be sending a separate email soon regarding my family situation and how that impacts preschool.  Thank you for your continued prayers.

Blessings on this new year!
Becky

Coming Up in Mrs. O'Loughlin's Class

I am excited to get back in the classroom with your sweet preschoolers!  We are going to be going on a forest adventure in January!  Our dramatic play is now a campsite!  Sticks will be used to write! Cut up stumps have been added to the block center! And get ready for a lot of green and brown creations!

We love to write in preschool!  There are always plenty of writing opportunities every day in all areas of the classroom.  Now that these kiddos are expert preschoolers, we will be focusing on some intentional handwriting and letter forming.  Don’t worry if your preschooler is not yet writing letters!  Each time a pencil is picked up and strokes are made, those writing skills are being developed and practiced!  Fostering a love for writing is my number one goal!

In worship we will be talking about Epiphany and the long journey the kings took to find God’s greatest gift, our Savior, Jesus!

On Thursday, we will be having science with Mr. Levi and our Happy Birthday Jesus Party over at the church.  We will walk over together at 9:15am, do some fun dry ice experiments with Mr. Levi and then throw a belated birthday party for Jesus!  We’ll head back over to the preschool at 10:30am!  Cupcakes will be our sweet treat, so no need to pack a snack.  Parents and siblings are welcome to join us for the celebration!

A reminder that we only play outside if the temperature is above 25 degrees.  According to the forecast, it’s not looking like we’ll be getting outside during our short week.  No need to bring snow clothes on those too cold days.

Praying you all have a very Happy New Year and that God’s richest blessings shower down on you in 2017!!

-Mrs. O’Loughlin

Ask your preschooler what the three kings followed to find baby Jesus! And see if they can tell you what the kings brought to baby Jesus!

Family and Music!

In Nigeria, family is extremely important and a focus of the Christmas celebration! Family travels from miles away to be together! A big party is thrown on Christmas Eve complete with lots of music! Drums, rhythm sticks and singing ring out! On Christmas morning, families go to church together to praise God for the gift of Jesus!

During centers preschoolers made their own musical instruments! And families were a big focus of the morning as some very special gifts are being finished up!

Coming Up in Preschool This Week!

The preschoolers have absolutely loved their daily visits from Addy!  They adore her and are enthralled with her Christmas celebration adventures.  This is her final week of travel:

ADDY’S CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS ROUTE
Monday: Sweden
Tuesday: Nigeria
Wednesday: India
Thursday: Switzerland
Friday: Greenland

On Monday, we have the special treat of hearing about Christmas in Sweden, particularly, the St. Lucia Festival celebration, from an amazing lady!  Ms. Marsha will give a hands on presentation beginning at 10am at Concordia Church.  Families are welcome to join!

We are  in need of a parent volunteer for Thursday!  This group will be making donuts and we need an extra set of hands!  Please email your child’s teacher if you are able to help!

Addy wants to hear about how children in the United States of America celebrate Christmas!  In each of your mailboxes is a Christmas bulb to write down a few of your families Christmas traditions!  Feel free to let your preschooler color or decorate the paper!  They will have an opportunity to show Addy and tell her all about their favorite ways to celebrate the birth of our Savior!

Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to bring items for our Happy Birthday Jesus parties!  There are still a few spots open!  A collection bin will be placed in the lobby for items!

Have a wonderful, snowy weekend!

ADDY’S CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS ROUTE
Monday: Haiti
Tuesday: Bethlehem
Wednesday: Brazil
Thursday: Australia
Friday: Mexico

The countries Addy tells us about give the preschoolers plenty of opportunity to learn and play in our center time activities.  This week, Christmas games and activities will focus on size differentiation, counting, one to one correspondence and number recognition!  Art is on Tuesday and Friday this week!

On Thursday, we will be having a beach day to go along with our Aussie Christmas celebration!  Your preschooler is invited to wear beach clothes to preschool!  The classroom will be very warm, but please be sure to send in warmer clothes to put over the beachwear for outside time!

In worship we will learn about the shepherds who heard about baby Jesus and came to worship him in Bethlehem.  Our wonderful Christmas songs will continue and we’ll be adding some new ones! “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!” Psalm 100:1

This morning, Addy told us about Christmas in Japan. Christmas is celebrated a lot like we celebrate Valentine's Day. Hearts, candy and flowers! A lot of people even get married on Christmas in Japan! During centers hearts were used in our learning and creating. The card station was busy as usual as preschoolers made special Christmas cards for the people they love!

Mrs. Hein was here for art and some beautiful stained glass was painted by these amazing preschoolers!!

A sign up for the T/Th Happy Birthday Jesus Party is in the lobby! Please sign up as you are able.
