Lambs in the Spring

We were able to go on our field trip this morning!  I prayed that the rain would hold off until 11am, and it did!  As we loaded up and drove off from the farm, the rain began.  God is amazing!

We enjoyed seeing all the lambs and ewes.  While we were not able to catch a lamb to hold and pet, one of the ewes was extremely friendly and let us pet her.  She also ate grain and hay from our hands.  She was well fed this morning!

May thanks to the parents and grandparents who came along on our trip!

Just a reminder that we do not have preschool next week.  Enjoy your spring break!

Upcoming Field Trips

As you know, we have a field trip planned for tomorrow and Friday.  We plan to go to Mrs. Barrington's house to see the lambs and play in the pasture.  We plan to leave at 9:15am or close to it.  This trips REQUIRES shoes that can get very dirty, boots are preferred.  Long pants are also required.  We will be outside all morning so please bring coats, hats, and gloves.  We will most likely get very dirty, so please send your preschooler in clothing for such things. :)  Family is welcome to attend.  If you are not attending with us, please leave your child's carseat or booster.

Having said all of that... the forecast does not look promising for the next two days.  I will post on our blog by 8am if the trip is cancelled.  If we do cancel, we will have preschool as normal and reschedule the field trip for sometime after Spring Break (which is next week).

Please let me know if you have any questions.  I am praying that the weather is favorable!

Another Day of New Life!

This class was able to enjoy a visit from the baby chicks as well.  The excitement in the air was contagious!  It was wonderful to see the smiles and curiosity of the children as the interacted with the chicks.

We also continue to watch the changes in the caterpillars.  They are BIG.

We ended our morning at chapel with Pastor Tim.  We sang some robust songs and learned about Hosanna and Jesus our King!

New Life in Preschool!

The favorite part of our morning, without a doubt, was the visit from 8 adorable baby chicks.  We learned about the chicks and how they hatched out of an egg.  We even were able to watch a video clip of a chick hatching.  The held the chicks, counted their toes (claws), fed them and observed them.  It was so much fun!

We also made out our palm branches to use as we heard the story of Christ's Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem as celebrated on Palm Sunday.  Loud Hosannas were heard throughout the lower level of the church!

Permission slips are out for our field trip to Mrs. Barrington's house.  If any parents would like to come along, we could use another driver or two.

Coming Up This Week

We have a very exciting week coming up.  Monday and Tuesday include a visit from some fluffy baby chicks!  We will learn a bit about chickens and will have the opportunity to hold them.  I’m hopeful we will also learn from their owner how these chicks will grow and how they will help provide fresh eggs for our local food bank.  Monday and Tuesday are also SHARE Days.

Our caterpillars continue to grow and we just might see them enter stage 3 of their lifecycle.  Perhaps they will be chrysalis before we leave for spring break and will hold off to emerge until we return.

Our field trips are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.  Rain or nasty weather will cancel these trips and we will reschedule.  Permission slips are in your box and there are sign up sheets posted for those who would like to attend with us.  Family is welcome to attend.  This trip requires boots, pants and coats.  There is great potential for getting very dirty.

We will begin learning about Holy Week this week.  It is a week full of richness so we will take one week for each holy day.  This week we will focus on Palm Sunday, Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

A few things to note:
·         Spring Break is next week March 31 – April 4, No Preschool
·         Chapel is this Tuesday but will be later in the morning as we will be meeting the baby chicks first thing
·         SHARE DAY Monday and Tuesday
·         FIELD TRIPS Thursday and Friday, rain cancels, permission slips required, family welcome

important Information

We would love to have your child bring in signs of spring to share with the class.  If your preschooler finds something that is easily brought into the classroom, please bring it.  If not, they could draw a picture of it or bring a photograph of what they found!  Spring is an exciting time!

Spring!

We were so thankful to be able to enjoy some time outside on the first day of spring!  The sunshine felt great and we loved running up and down the hill, looking for worms, zooming down the slide and giggling ALOT!

Inside we played out the lifecycle of a butterfly.  We started out as eggs, became caterpillars, used towels to wrap up as a chrysalis and then opened the towel to become a beautiful butterfly!  You could give your preschool a colorful towel to play out the lifecycle at home!

I will be in Portland tomorrow at a Regional Director's Conference.  I am looking forward to being a student this weekend!

Caterpillar Fun

Our caterpillars are growing!  They keep getting bigger and bigger.  The preschoolers are amazed at how quickly they change!  Today the preschoolers had opportunity to make beaded caterpillars and paint caterpillars in the grass.  A big box made it's way to our classroom so we collected all our large cardboard and created a line of houses.  We had a row of 5 units put together.  It was a super fun time and will be around for a few days I'm sure!

Baby chicks are visiting Monday and Tuesday next week!

Getting Ready for Spring

Spring is just a few days away, and I for one am very excited for it!  We've been reading a few books about spring.  We've also been reading about butterflies and their lifecycle.  At closing circle we took a close look at our caterpillars and came up with a list of words to describe what they look like.  They will grow even bigger over the next week or so and then something amazing will happen!  We are excited to watch God's amazing creation at work!

We had several families visiting the preschool today, families that will be joining us next fall.  We were happy to have them with us!

Some exciting things are happening next week.  Baby chicks will be visiting our classroom on Monday and Tuesday!  Spring brings all kinds of animal baby fun!  Thursday and Friday (weather permitting) will be our trip to Mrs. Barrington's house to see the baby lambs.  We are hoping for fabulous weather both days!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We had a fabulously green day!  Each preschooler brought home a shamrock activity bag.  It has a poem about 5 shamrocks.  They can show you how the poem works with the shamrocks if you read it to them.  They had a lot of fun with it.  We also learned how a shamrock can help us understand God and the Trinity.  We used 3 green hearts to form a shamrock.

In worship we learned about treasure... where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.  Ask your preschooler what their treasure might be!

Coming Up This Week...

It is an exciting week!  Monday we will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.  Wear green!  We will learn about what the Bible tells us about our treasure and enjoy some shamrock fun.

Our caterpillars have arrived and we will beginning learning all about the life cycle of the butterfly, the amazing and creative process of metamorphosis that God created!  We will be focusing on the first two stages on the lifecycle… eggs and caterpillar.  Of course, we will celebrate the first day of Spring!

Our Worship time will be using the shamrock to help describe the Trinity.  We will also be using our prayer journals this week.  Of course God’s creation will be woven throughout our day as we discover butterflies.  Chapel is on Wednesday this week, parents are welcome to stay and worship with us!

A few things to note:
·         Watch for permission slips for next week’s field trip.  Rain will cancel these trips, so pray for sunny skies!
·         Spring Break is March 31 – April 4, No Preschool that week
·         Chapel is this Wednesday
·         Mrs. Krantz will be in Portland for a Director’s conference on Friday.  Mrs. Eld will be in the classroom.

Amazing Sunshine

I don't know about you, but I am tempted to pack up my snow boots for the year... might be a bit too soon, but it is tempting!  We enjoyed some fabulous time outside today.  We put some gear together and headed outside in search of signs of spring.  We had hand lenses that came in quite handy when we found worms and a few caterpillars.  We also found new growth on trees and new sprouts emerging from the ground.  Fabulous!

The ABC bags have been a lot of fun.  Those items will go home next week.  Thanks for doing this at home with your preschooler!  I hope you have enjoyed it as well.

ABC Bags

We started our morning upstairs in the sanctuary at Chapel with Pastor Tim.  Ask your preschooler what Pastor Tim had, and what he wanted to do with it!

During centers time we were busy in the water table, building letters, creating notecards and letters to friends and lots of other fun and creative play.  A few of the preschoolers shared their ABC bag.  It was fun to pull items out that began with the letter on the bag!

We enjoyed some fabulous sunshine outside.  It was hard to come back in!  Hopefully you can enjoy the sunshine today too!

Sounds of Rain

It was good to be back in the classroom with the kids!  We enjoyed seeing some of the ABC bags that came back to school today.  We made each letter with our body too.

Centers time included some fantastic water table work, creating letters with marshmallows and toothpicks, drawing some beautiful spring flowers and enjoying creating many different modes of transportation with several large boxes!

We enjoyed creating the sounds of a rainstorm with just the different sounds our hands can make.  Perhaps your preschooler will share the sounds with you!

Coming Up This Week

Thank you for a fabulous week of conferences.  It is so important to take time to sit down with each of you and discuss your child’s progress and development.  I enjoyed the week with you very much!

This week we will be looking at the ABC bags that were sent home during conference week.  Your child will share what is in his/her bag.  If you left conferences without a bag, I will give you one this week.  I got most of you, but I think I forgot a few.  We will also be getting outside to have some exploration fun if the weather permits.  We would like to hunt for signs of spring!  We will be using toothpicks and marshmallows to build letters and shapes this week too.  We will do our best to keep just a few in tummys.

Our Worship time will focus on sharing.  We will hear about the early church sharing with those in need.  Chapel is on Tuesday.  Parents are welcome to attend as well!

A few things to note:
·         We have a field trip at the end of the month.  More info to come on that!
·         Spring Break is March 31 – April 4
·         Chapel is this Tuesday
