Food Drive, Snow, St. Lucia and Stars!

It was a busy day!  We had lots on incredible learning packed into our morning.  We took advantage of the fresh fallen snow first thing this morning.  We rolled some HUGE snowballs and build a cute snowman.  We also build an snow slide!

We ended our food drive by charting out the food on the floor.  It was a fabulous activity and we counted 76 items donated!  THANK YOU!

A member from the congregation came in and told us all about St. Lucia and the celebrations in Sweden.  We saw many of the decorations, ate some Swedish treats, heart a story and our oldest girls dressed as Lucia and the oldest boy as the Star Boy.

We ended the morning painting stars with Ms. Holly!

Cookies, Banners and Stars

Our classroom has been  a busy workshop of creativity!  We made nativity banners, lovely and delicious Christmas sugar cookies, stained glass stars, cards, beaded artwork and more.  We have had multiple sightings of angles, Mary, Joseph, shepherds and Baby Jesus.  The miniature nativity sets have been seeing wonderful use ans the preschoolers play our the story of Jesus' birth!  It is wonderful to watch and enjoy.

Our Food Drive was a wonderful success.  Friday people can still bring food tomorrow.  We made our big chart on the floor and sorted the food into categories.  We worked hard to create the big graph and we had a wonderful time doing it.

Next week will include SHARE DAY on Monday and Tuesday.  Thursday and Friday will be Happy Birthday Jesus Parties from 10:30- 11:30.  Parents are welcome to join us in the fun!

Catching Up

Wow!  Life in December is busy!  I apologize for being tardy in my usual daily blog.

The past two days have been filled with discovery of Christmas celebrations around the world.  Today we learned about traditions in the Netherlands and yesterday was Brazil.  We've been keeping our fingers busy with beading, painting, tongs and card making.  We've also been busy putting the finishing touches on our special woodworking projects.  These have been in the works since early November!

Our Food Drive collection finishes up this week.  If you would like to bring donations, Thursday and Friday are the last days.  The preschoolers have been asking many questions about the food drive and how it helps people.  There have been numerous teachable moments on caring and helping others in need.  It has been a wonderful experience for both the teachers and students.

There are numerous Christmas creations around the classroom on bulletin boards.  If you have a moment, come on in and explore the beautiful artwork!

Many thanks to those who have volunteered to head up the Happy Birthday Jesus parties next week!  I'm looking forward to our celebrations.

Our worship time will be following “A Bright Star in Bethlehem” devotional as we count down until Christmas.

A few things to note:

Humphrey's First Christmas

Today we enjoyed reading "Humphrey's First Christmas" by Carol Heyer.  It is a fabulous book about a camel named Humphrey who just happens to be part of the caravan traveling to meet a new baby King.  The illustrations in this book are amazing!  The preschoolers loved the book and enjoyed making faces like Humphrey.

We are still in the midst of our Food Drive.  We will be collecting food through the end of next week.  Please bring items as you are able!

Brrr!

It was a frigid morning, but we were cozy warm in our classroom.  We started off with chapel upstairs.  We sang carols, prayed, and Pastor Tim told us about Jesus in our homes and in our hearts!

Centers time was full of adventures.  We made our own snack using bagels to make our own edible Christmas wreaths.  We are working hard to finish a special woodworking project, we created patterns and had fun with Christmas stickers.  There was some fantastic figurine playing with the miniature nativity characters.  Such a joy to watch the preschoolers play the story of our Savior's birth!

Tonight is Concordia Lutheran Church's first Advent Meal and Worship.  Please join us!  Dinner is Baked Potato Bar starting at 5:45pm.  Worship follows at 6:30pm.

SNOW!!!

Our morning started by taking advantage of the fresh fallen snow, and children already in their snow gear!  It was a beautiful snow and we enjoyed our time in it.

Today we learned about Christmas in Japan.  It is celebrated as a holiday of love, much like Valentine's Day here.  We prayed for Japan as there are few there who know Jesus.

We worked on our special Christmas projects, made heart shaped Christmas cards, played with nativity sets and made some very TALL structures!

In worship, we lit our first Advent candle and placed another star on our night sky.  We sang and prayed together.

Mom's Bible Study Cancelled Tonight

Due to icy roads and some road closures, Mom's Bible Study will be cancelled this evening.

Meet Addy!

The preschooler met Addy today!  Addy is our Advent Angel.  She travels all over the world to find out how people around the world celebrate Christmas!  Today she told us about Christmas in Argentina.  We discovered that it is warm there and they enjoy celebrating with fireworks.  They also cover Christmas trees with cotton balls to make snow!  The nativity is a very important Christmas decoration as well!

During centers we painted firework pictures, created snow covered Christmas trees, engaged in the nativity story through costumes and props, made Christmas cards and painted with Papa Ken.

Our worship time included our Advent devotions and count down.  We are using the same devotional that was sent home with you today.  We sang Christmas carols and focused on getting ready for Jesus!

Our Food Drive starts this week.  We talked about what a Food Drive is and how it helps other people.  The kids were very excited about the opportunity to help others!

We will also be holding a Food Drive starting on Monday.  We will collect items for two weeks.  Please bring non-perishable food items and hygiene items to contribute as you are able.  All items will be given to the Pullman Food Bank.  We’ll be grabbing lots of teachable moments with the Food Drive as giving to others is a rich lesson for us all!
