Volunteer Fun!

We had a busy morning!  Lots of volunteers made for lots of fun today.  We worked on surprise Christmas gifts, made number turkeys, read one-on-one, did lots of patterning work and made the letter T with out bodies!

For our worship time, we worked on a service project by making cards for shut-ins.  These will be sent out in the mail in time for Thanksgiving.  We pray they bring joy to those who receive them!

REMINDER... No preschool next week.  Happy Thanksgiving!

His Love Endure Forever

We started our morning upstairs at Chapel with Pastor Tim.  We enjoyed learning a new song about thanking God.  This song included some fabulous animal noises!  By the way, who knows what sound a giraffe makes?!?  We learned the phrase "His Love Endures Forever!"  Of course, we are talking about God's unfailing love!

It was busy at centers time.  We made number turkeys with feather quantity matching the numeral on the turkey.  We played a game called "Turkey Trot" and we made mini pumpkin pies.  We also made Thanksgiving cards that will be sent to members of Concordia Lutheran Church who are shut-in, unable to get out of the house much.  This includes a few who now live in nursing homes.  I know they will love getting special mail from our preschoolers.

Coming Up This Week... November 18-22

Our last week in November has arrived!  The fall has really cruised by and it has been wonderful!  This week we will be learning a fun turkey song that reinforces color identification and patterning.  Watch for turkey headbands, feather projects and a few numbered turkeys too.  We will be getting out hands into dried corn and making individual pumpkin pies with Grandma Karen.  We continue to work hard on a special woodworking project with Papa Ken.

In Worship we will continue to look at what the Bible has to say about being thankful.  Our verse is Ephesians 5:20.

Mrs. Eld will be in the classroom on Monday and Tuesday this week.  I will be taking the kids for some one-on-one time as I work to keep their portfolios up to date.

A few things to note:
  • ·         Chapel is November 20 (Wednesday).  Parents are welcome to stay and worship with      us!
  • ·         BRRRRR!!! It’s cold outside!  Please be sure to send winter coats, hats and mittens or gloves for your preschooler.

Chapel and SHARE Day

Chapel is always a great way to start our morning.  Pastor Tim led us in a wonderful song about thanking God for everything.  Then he facilitated a play, involving all the preschoolers and family worshiping with us, of the 10 lepers being healed.  Ask your preschooler which part he/she played!

SHARE Day was exciting as always.  Centers time was busy with one-on-one reading, woodworking, turkey making and card making.  Life is good in preschool!

Turkeys!

The preschooler enjoyed a fun turkey project today involving messy hands, googly eyes, and beautiful fall colors.  The beautiful artwork is hanging up above the cubbies.  They will come home in time to adorn your house for Thanksgiving festivities.  They also enjoyed sharing things they were thankful for and placing the Thankful Cards on our Wall of Thankfulness.

SHARE DAY is Thursday and Friday!

Being Thankful

Thank you for bringing in your Thankful Cards today.  They now adorn our WALL OF THANKFULNESS.  If you have a moment, come on in and take a peek at our special wall.

We created some fabulous artwork today including Indian Corn and turkeys.  The turkey are roosting in the classroom tree and the corn is still drying.  These will find a home beneath the roosting turkeys.

Our worship time included learning our new Bible verse (Ephesians 5:20) and reading the Bible story of 10 lepers being healed.  Ask your preschooler about it!

Thursday and Friday are SHARE DAYS!

Coming Up This Week... November 12-15

We have much to be thankful for!  This week we will be focusing on the many things we can be thankful for and Thanksgiving.  You’ll be seeing some turkey projects and Flint Corn (Indian Corn) projects.  We will also be making our Thankful Wall with the cards that were sent home last week.  They will list things that we your preschooler and/or your family are thankful for!

SHARE DAY is Thursday and Friday this week.  Please help your preschooler choose one items to bring to tell his/her friends about!

In Worship we will also be taking a look at what the Bible has to say about being thankful.  This is our next virtue to explore.  Our verse for the next two weeks is Ephesians 5:20.

Mrs. Eld will be in the classroom on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  I will be taking the kids for some one-on-one time as I work to keep their portfolios up to date.

A few things to note:
  • ·         Chapel is November 14 (Thursday).  Parents are welcome to stay and worship with us!

Apollo the Puppy

We enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Barrington's puppy, Apollo, this morning.  He is a 4 month old yellow lab.  The preschoolers had so much fun with him!  It was such a special treat to have some puppy time!

During our worship time, we used our prayer journals for some prayer time through pictures.  Your preschoolers have had so much fun hiding the Word of God in their hearts through song.  I hope they have shared these with you at home!

A card went home today that will need to be returned next week.  Please have your preschooler, or it could be a family project, dictate things he/she/they are thankful for.  Write those things on the card and your preschooler will get to share the list at circle time.

REMINDER.... NO PRESCHOOL ON MONDAY!

Surface Tension

We got a little bit wet today as we discovered surface tension on water as we floated leaves.  We added weight to the leaves to break the tension and watch the leaves sink.  This was loads of fun!  We also finished up our books and illustrations on the tree we have been watching.  We will keep an eye on it throughout the winter and spring too.

Card went home today.  Please have your preschooler or family dictate a list of things they are thankful for and write those things on the card.  Please return the card Tuesday or Wednesday next week.  Your preschooler will get to share the card and then it will be displayed in the classroom as we focus on being thankful!

Please don't forget to vote regarding our potential afternoon expansion of preschool.  Please vote once as a family and encourage friends in the area with preschool children to vote as well.  Thanks for your prayers as we discern and expansion of this ministry!

Afternoon Enrollment Poll

Concordia Lutheran Preschool is exploring the possibility of adding an afternoon session next fall.  At this point, we are gathering information to assess if this would be a viable expansion of our ministry.  Please take a moment to vote using the poll on the sidebar of the blog.  Please vote once as a family.  If you have friends with preschool aged children, please encourage them to vote as well.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.  Thank you for your help as we discern God's plan for our preschool!

Our Tree

Today we were able to send home the books that were illustrated by your preschooler which followed the changes in our tree.  We watched for several weeks drawing what we saw each week.  I hope your preschooler enjoys sharing this book with you at home!

It was a busy day!  We started out upstairs for Chapel with Pastor Tim.  We enjoyed woodworking, painting and a dice game that involved putting leaves on a tree.  The preschoolers would roll the dice, count the number of dots and them put that same amount of leaves of the tree.  It was a popular game!

On Thursday and Friday (the next two days) your preschooler will be bringing home an index card sized card.  At home, please have your child dictate a list of thing he/she is thankful for and write the list on the card.  If you wish, you can turn this into a family activity and write the list as a family.  Please return the card on Tuesday and Wednesday next week (there is no preschool on Monday).

Snow Storm

We took advantage of the beautiful snow fall and had some fun teachable moments.  We read a fun book that a preschooler brought called "Snow."  Ask your preschooler what the dog in the book did!  You might get a variety of answers.  The dog was a popular figure as we read.  We also created snow storms and snowmen with cotton balls to celebrate the weather outside.

Your preschooler brought home an envelope today with 5 leaves and a poem.  We had fun with the poem and numbers today.  Now you can have fun doing the same thing at home.  I hope you nejoy this activity with your preschooler.

5 Fluttering Leaves

Today we learned a fun poem about 5 Fluttering Leaves.  The preschoolers each brought home the poem and a set of 5 leaves to have at home.  I hope you enjoy this activity with your preschooler!

We did leaf rubbings today, painting using a leaf as a stencil, creative puppet making and some fabulous marble works building.

The snow was a special delight!  We were able to get outside and enjoy some of the snow, although a lot had melted, much to the dismay of our group of kids.  We did enjoy what was there!

Coming Up This Week... November 4-8

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed the Pumpkin Party and to those who donated items to our fun endeavor.  I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!

November is here!  This week we will be doing some work with leaves.  This work will include up close observation, listing what we see, using leaves to discover surface tension with water, creating awesome leaf based art, counting with leaves and some measuring as well.  Our T/TH group will dive into rhyming words this week.  Our M/W/F class will continue with Word Time.  We are catching up a bit from all the crazy fun of the last few weeks!  Both classes will be bringing home a fun poem and activity to use at home.  Watch for these on Monday and Tuesday.

Our last few weeks have been busy with a variety of things, so we haven’t covered the virtue of patience fully.  We will continue with patience this week and move on to thankfulness next week.

A few things to note:
  • ·         Chapel is November 6.  Parents are welcome to stay and worship with us!
  • ·         BRRRRR!!! It’s cold outside!  Please be sure to send a winter coat, hat and mittens or gloves for your preschooler.
