Midnight Snack

Our nocturnal day at preschool was a glowing success!  The preschoolers fell right into the nocturnal party and we had a fabulous time being active at "night."  We used glowing floam to sculpt and create, glow sticks to shaped letters, numbers and shaped on the floor.  We created glowing hoops to roll down our number line carpet.  LED tea light candles were flickering throughout the room and preschoolers read books to the babies by candle light.

Our midnight snack was eaten by candle light at the tables.  We had made pumpkins with Grandma Karen... easy peel oranges with a green licorice top for the stem.

We read two fabulous books today.  "Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell and "Nighsong" by Ari Berk.  Both are fabulous books about nocturnal animals.

Here is the link to a YouTube video book animation of "Owl Babies" if you are interested in watching it with your preschooler!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6aYYiyQUmY

If any of you have a few fabulous pictures from today's event, please email them to me!

Thursday and Friday are PAJAMA Days!  Chapel is Thursday too.  Preschoolers are welcome to bring ONE stuffed animal OR blanket for PJ Day.

Going Batty

We enjoyed a bit of batty fun today.  We made a list about the different things we knew about bats, and then a book helped us add things to that list.  We discovered what amazing creatures God created when He made bats!

We have started a special woodworking projects, but it's top secret and will only be revealed to parents under your Christmas tree. :)

Tomorrow is the Pumpkin Party!  The fun starts at 10:30am.  I'm looking forward to it!

Authors and Illustrators

Our class worked together to become authors and illustrators!  We took a pumpkin and wrote a story about it.  Once the story was finished, we made illustrations. We named our story "Sleepy Pumpkin."

We enjoyed woodworking today, hammering nails.  We continued to explore the inside of a pumpkin and we saw some great road building, city building and team work to get the job done.

We ended the day with Ms Holly and art.

Group Games

We took a close look at the gooey insides of a pumpkin today.  We also enjoyed looking at how a group of pumpkins is the same and how the pumpkins are different.  It was also a big day for groups games.  Candyland was a happening spot, Memory and ABC Dora all got quite a bit of use today.  Group games/board games are a fabulous way to learn conflict resolution, team work, patience and other skills.

The weather was beautiful today!  We enjoyed seeing how the red  leaves on our special tree have turned a bright red from a dull, dark red.  Your preschooler brought home some of those special leaves today.

REMINDER...
The Pumpkin Party is next week on October 30 at 10:30am.  Family is strongly encouraged to attend... it is a blast!  Appropriate costumes by both children and adults are welcome.  Please no witches, ghosts... anything spooky or remotely scary.  We want to make it fun for all our kiddos!  Let me know if you have any questions!

Pumpkin Patch

We enjoyed out own little pumpkin patch today, thanks to the arrival of the Pumpkins for this weekend's Pumpkin Carving and Spaghetti Dinner at the church. (You are welcome to join in the fun, just let us know so we have enough pumpkins!)  We did a lot of observing, comparing and contrasting.

We started learning our memory verse on patience.  Ask your preschooler if he/she can tell you what the verse says.

Next week is the Pumpkin Party!  Preschool for the M/W/F class will start as usual at 9:00am.  T/Th kids can join us at 10:30 for Pumpkin Party fun.  We'll have lots of carnival booths with prizes (no candy), cookies decorating and fun family time.  A parent is highly encouraged to attend with his/her child.  Costume are welcome, but please nothing spooky, scary or inappropriate.  Witches, ghost, vampires, zombies... are not acceptable for children or adults.  Keep in mind that this is geared for 3-5 year olds!  Siblings are welcome to join in the fun too.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Pumpkin Ice Cream

We had the perfect autumn morning for our field trip to Ferdinand's Ice Cream!  The weather was beautiful for a morning walk.  Once we arrived, we enjoyed a story, cheese curds, pumpkin ice cream and a movie.  We also were able to watch the worked busy making cheese!  It was very exciting.  Many thanks to the adults who came along with us on our trip.

One the walk home, we stopped to collect pine cones and we discovered a birds nest, an animal skeleton and a baseball.  It was a great collecting sight.

I was very proud of our preschoolers.  They did a wonderful job and our field trip.  You all have amazing children!

Appreciating our Pastor

October is Pastor Appreciation month.  Today we took time to say thank you to Pastor Tim and let him know how much we appreciate him.  We served breakfast and enjoyed food fellowship with him.  We also made a book for him with artwork from each child.  It was a lovely way to start our week.  THANK YOU PASTOR TIM FOR ALL YOU DO!!!

Today was also the day to begin our Pumpkin Discovery.  We learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin, drew some pumpkin pictures and a few preschoolers wrote some fantastic pumpkin stories!

Next week is our field trip to Ferdinand's.  Permission slips were in your mailbox today and need to be signed and returned before our trip.  Also, we need you to sign up ahead of time if you plan to attend.  I will be calling Ferdinand's on Thursday to give them a head count.

Pumpkin Patch

Today we painted pumpkins to add to our bulletin board pumpkin patch.  The preschoolers also drew self portraits to go on each pumpkin in the patch! We did a lot of patterning and sorting today as well.  We added another picture of our tree that we are observing for the month.  The leaves looked different this time.  Ask you preschooler about it!  We enjoyed the crisp fall air for a bit before we worked with the color orange during Art with Ms. Holly.

Picture Day is tomorrow!  The class picture is taken at 9:10am upstairs in the Worship Center.  T/Th kids who wish to have individual pictures taken will have them done right after the group picture.  Siblings are welcome to have pictures taken too!

Joyful Hearts

We had joyful hearts today!  And lots of energy!  This was one of those morning that the teachers were full speed ahead keeping up with our fun filled learners! :)

We started our morning at Chapel with Pastor Tim.  We moved into centers time with number punching, pumpkin painting, drawing self portraits and building letters and people with sticks.  Squawker came and we learned the words "long" and "short."  We set the timer for one minute and had to be still and silent for that whole minute.  That was a LONG time!  Then we did it again for 5 seconds.  That was a SHORT time.  We agreed that the short wait was easier!

Picture Day on Friday!!!!

Making Applesauce

Today was our turn to make applesauce during "Cooking with Grandma Karen."  We learned a few new words, "sieve" and "maul."  We used those two tools to make our own applesauce which we enjoyed at snack time!

We enjoyed learning quantities with paper punches and numbers, played some fun word bingo and did some building with Mat Man.  We are also discovering how to draw Mat Man.

Picture Day is on Friday.  The class picture will be taken first thing at 9:10am.  Please meet us upstairs in the Worship Center.  Individual pictures will be taken after the group photo.  Please turn in your envelope by Thursday if at all possible.

On another note, thank you for you prayers for my family.  My husband's surgery was very successful and we got very good news yesterday! God is good!

We’ve got some fabulous fall fun coming up this week.  We will continue our tree watch as we observe the changes in our special tree.  At the end of our watch, your child will have their own illustrated journal with their pictures of our changing tree.  We will also be working on body awareness with MAT MAN as we identify different parts of our body (eyes, nose, ears...) and then draw self-portraits.  These will be happily displayed in our Pumpkin Patch bulletin board!  Come on in the classroom and take a look!

In worship this week, we will learn about JOY!  Our Bible verse is Proverbs 17:22.  A song will help us put the Word of God in our hearts and we will hear about the Good Shepherd rejoicing in finding lost sheep.

Bubbles in the Wind

One of my favorite parts of our morning was during our time outside.  The playground and grassy area get some incredible wind currents and today was just the day to observe those currents.  Our helper... BUBBLES!  It was so fun to watch the air currents take the bubbles in different directions.  The children also enjoyed chasing the bubbles!

We met Big Line and Little Line today.  These two friends like to work together to make letters.  We'll be meeting two other friends as well that will complete the friend group that enjoy making letters!  Woodworking started up today and Papa Ken worked with those who were interested to make wood curls with the wood plane.

I must say that it is a pleasure to see the friendships forming as we are through our first month of preschool.  It is absolutely wonderful!
