A Good Empty

We had chapel with Pastor Dudley today.  He showed us all kinds of things that were empty.  Even the empty M&M jar... GASP!  Then we looked at the cross.  One preschool announced "It's a good empty!"  Indeed it was and is a GOOD EMPTY!  We celebrated the empty cross, the empty tomb and Jesus love for us today.

We ended our morning with a wonderful outdoor Easter Egg hunt.  We were so happy to be able to be outside!

Enjoy your Spring Break and have a Blessed Easter!

He is Risen!

Today, we heard the rest of the story!  We turned the room dark, and lit our altar candle.  The darkness could not overcome the light... Jesus, the light of the world!  Jesus is alive!  We rejoiced together!

We worked hard today weaving our Easter baskets, creating cross art, sorting eggs, and baking Resurrection Rolls with Grandma Karen.  The baking was a favorite today!

We missed the rain and enjoyed playing outside.  Chalk art, building, balancing, running and recreating the Easter story were all part of our outdoor time.

He is Risen!  He is Risen Indeed!

At the Cross

Today was my office day, but I was able to watch the classroom in action while I worked at the computer.  They played with colors and a daffodil poem, made cross art, and heard the story of Good Friday. I heard a lot of great comments from the children as they listened to the story of Jesus death on the cross.  It is wonderful to hear about their knowledge of the love of Christ!

Coming Up - Holy Week

Last week we focused on Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, as celebrated on Palm Sunday.  Then we took a closer look at The Last Supper as celebrated on Maundy Thursday.  This week we will learned about the crucifixion (Good Friday) and end with The Resurrection (Easter)!  We will continue our work with geometry and forming shapes too.  The preschoolers will be making their own Easter baskets for our upcoming Easter Egg Hunts.  Siblings will need to bring their own basket or bag for hunting.

The Easter Egg Hunts are on Thursday and Friday.  Siblings are welcome to attend.  We start promptly at 11:15 and it is usually done by 11:16, so please be prompt if you want to share in the joy!

Our congregation has 3 worship services on Easter Sunday.  Our sunrise service at 6:30am and two other services at 8:00am and 10:30am.  We’d love to worship with you and celebrate Easter!

The Upper Room

Our morning was full!  We made a list about how our different senses tell us that spring is here, finished up our woodworking projects (our very own wooden crosses), made cute donkeys, read several wonderful books, and learned about The Last Supper.

Our worship time was longer than usual and we went to a place in the church we had never been!  We went to "The Upper Room."  This is the balcony in our sanctuary.  In the upper room we tasted several things that Jesus would have shared with his disciples at the Passover meal.  We ate Matzah, dipped parsley in salt water, enjoyed sweet apples and drank grape juice.  We also talked about Jesus washing the feet of his disciples and what that meant.  Each preschooler had the opportunity to get his/her feet washed if they so chose.  It was a wonderful experience that I hope the preschoolers will remember for a long time!

We ended the day with Miss Holly and the jellybean prayer!  Ask your preschooler to share the prayer with you!

Welcome Spring!

We were happy to welcome spring with RAIN showers instead of SNOW showers!  We made a list of things that we see that tell us spring is here.  The list is posted by the sign in/out binder.

During centers, we made our own donkeys as we remembered Jesus riding a donkey into Jerusalem.  We also planted flower seeds to welcome spring, hid Easter eggs and began painting some special flowers.

The kids enjoyed Chapel with Pastor Dudley today.  This included a wonderful parade with a donkey caring Jesus, lots of musical instruments and joyous celebration!

Woodworking With Grandpa Ken

The kids were super excited to start on their next woodworking project today.  They will be making their very own wooden cross to hang up on a wall!  They are very excited and very proud, which they should be!

We enjoyed singing praises to our God and shouting Hosanna.  We were able to see real palms and lay them on our road to Jerusalem.

We also enjoyed some spring weather outside today... amazing how much one day can be different from the last!

I AM IN URGENT NEED OF PLAIN WHITE ICE CREAM BUCKETS WITH HANDLES... WE DON'T NEED THE LIDS.  IF YOU HAVE ANY, PLEASE BRING THEM THIS WEEK!

Hosanna!

Our day started off thinking about our field trip last week.  We made a list of the things we liked the most.  These included running up the hill, petting the lamb, chasing the sheep, eating snack and seeing the stream.  I think we got the best few days of the month for our field trips!  I'm glad it was warmer then it was today!

Our centers time included gluing fabric down on "The Road to Jerusalem."  We also used our scissor skills making our own palms.  We also sorted Easter Eggs into different nests and enjoyed hiding a few eggs too.

HOSANNA was our word at worship today.  We waved our palms, and shout "HOSANNA!  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"  We also sang a fun Hosanna song.

URGENT NEED... I am collecting clean ice cream buckets with handles.  They need to be the plain white buckets.  I need 19 by early next week.  If you have any, or know of anyone who has some to donate, I will gladly take them!

PARENTS NIGHT OUT...  Concordia Lutheran Church is providing FREE childcare this coming Saturday (March 23) from 4-7pm.  Dinner will be included.  Please let me know if you want to take advantage of this great opportunity!

Coming Up...

We are excited to welcome SPRING this week!  We are hopeful for fabulous spring weather in the next few weeks.  I encourage you to seek out signs of Spring with your preschooler.
The next two weeks will focus on the events of Holy Week.  This week we will be learning about the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and the Last Supper.  We will be learning about the word “Hosanna” and your children will experience a footwashing.  These next two weeks will be RICH!

Along with Spring and the first parts of Holy Week, we will be working on identifying shapes, building shapes and making sets.  We will also be putting in some more handwriting time.  Watch for some fabulous spring and Easter crafts… I am hoping some will end up on our bulletin boards!

THANK YOU to everyone who came on the field trip to see the lambs.  I’m so glad we had wonderful weather.

Next week we will be having Easter Egg Hunts on Thursday and Friday.  Siblings are welcome to attend.  We start promptly at 11:15 and it is usually done by 11:16, so please be prompt if you want to share in the joy!

Flexibility

Preschool is all about flexibility.  While we didn't accomplish everything in my lesson plans, we were able to embrace some teachable moments and go with what the preschoolers needed today!  We did enjoy a different kind of finger painting, attempting shamrock shaped rice krispy treats (they still tasted great!), shape finding and letter finding with our new finding friends.!

Chapel with Pastor Dudley was wonderful as always and we enjoyed some fabulous outside time.  We saw lots of running!

Field Trips the rest of the week!  See you then!

Shamrocks

The past two days have been delightful at preschool!  This is the easiest transition into Daylight Savings that I have ever had in the classroom.  All the preschoolers seemed very happy to back with their friends after a week off for conferences.

We've been learning a poem about 5 shamrocks and making our own sets of props to act out the poem at home.  We've also been making shamrock headbands, painting with blue and yellow to create a new color and finding shapes and letter with our new shape finders and star alphabet pointers.  Ask your preschoolers about them!

Thursday and Friday are our field trips days to see the lambs.  IT WILL BE MUDDY!  PLEASE SEND YOUR PRESCHOOLER IN APPROPRIATE CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR.  BOOTS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.  DRESSES, TIGHTS, AND DRESS SHOES ARE NOT ALLOWED.
I'm very excited for this fun field trip.  We are praying for fantastic weather!

Coming Up This Week

Here we are in the month of March!  It won’t be long and Easter will be here.  Time is cruising right along.  This week we will be having some Shamrock fun.  We’ll be learning a shamrock poem and the preschoolers will have the opportunity to make their very own props for the poem.  We’ll also be making some shamrock artwork, doing some scissor work and using the shamrock to help us learn about God!

On Thursday and Friday we will be taking our annual field trip to Mrs. Barrington’s house to visit the newly born lambs.  Heavy rain will cancel the field trip.  Please dress your child for the outdoors including mud.  Dresses are not allowed.  Boots are STRONGLY encouraged.  Your children will come home dirty as we will be feeding the sheep and walking in the pasture.  We need volunteer drivers each day.  Please sign up to help drive.  Siblings are welcome to attend with a parent.  Please sign siblings up as well so I am sure to have enough snack.  This field trip will be all morning from 9-11:30.   Field Trip forms must be signed and returned even if the parent is attending.

Worship this week will focus on Jesus and Zacchaeus.  We will focus on God’s love and forgiveness.

Thank You!

I had a very enjoyable week of conferences with you! Thanks for taking the time to chat about your preschooler and allowing Sue and I to be a part of your child's life. Each one of our preschool children is precious to us and it is such a blessing to see the God given personalities, gifts and interests each child has blossom and grow. Not only that, but it is a true blessing to get to know you as the parents and families of these incredible children. Thank you!

The Lambs Are Here!

Great News!  Mrs. Barrington's ewes have had their lambs!  Next week we will be our annual Lamb Field Trip to see the newness of life on her farm!  We will be going on both Thursday and Friday next week.  We need parent volunteers to help with driving.  Siblings are welcome to attend, just let me know ahead of time so I can make sure to provided enough snack.  Permission slips will be in your mailbox at the beginning of the week.  I need all permission slips returned even if the parent will be attending.

Welcome March!

Our first day or March was an enormous amount of fun.  It was just a really fun day in preschool!  SHARE Day was great, the kids did a fantastic job speaking in front of their peers and listening to one another.  We shared some funny jokes, laughed a lot, and just enjoyed the morning.  We saw lots of teamwork, sharing, and helping one another out.  Smiles were everywhere.

The wet weather kept us inside.  One of the great parts of having a "moveable" classroom is the ability to transform space in just a few minutes.  We cleared out and area and created a hula hoop corner, a maze house, obstacle course and a hoop shoot area.  The preschoolers couldn't have been happier!

REMINDER... No preschool next week.  Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for next week.  Reminder slips went out in your mailboxes, but if you forget what time you are scheduled for, let me know.

Have a wonderful weekend!
