Wow!  If your preschooler says that preschool was loud today, they are correct.  Energy was high, lots of busy learning happening, and lots of loudness!  We embraced the energy and ran with it.  We mixed our own snack mix with Grandma Karen, we painted in several different ways, we play lots of board games, and read some fantastic books that friends brought  from home!  If you have a favorite underwater book, please bring it to share.

Thanks for sharing your children with us.  We love them on loud days and quiet days alike!  I do wish I could find a way to collect their energy and somehow disperse it to sleepless parents!

Fishy Books

We have been enjoying some fantastic books about the ocean, fish, whales and other aquatic life!  I encourage you to have your preschooler bring a favorite aquatic book to share with the class!  I'll be happy to read it aloud!

The preschooler got busy painting with watercolors and sprinkling their artwork with salt, playing in the water with animal creatures, exploring the ocean floor and heading up to Chapel with Pastor Dudley.

You should have several important pieces of information in your mailbox today.  Make sure to check those out.  The sign up sheet for items needed for the upcoming art show is also up.  Take a look and help out where you can!

Under the Sea

We are having so much fun in our underwater classroom!  Today we rolled out the huge blue tarp and added lots of stuffed animal sea creatures.  The preschoolers swam with hammerhead sharks, dolphins, clown fish, beluga whales and orcas, just to name a few.  We also painted out on underwater scenes with watercolors... they turned out BEAUTIFUL!

Our worship time included hearing all about Jonah and the big fish.  Ask your preschooler what they learned!

Enjoy the beautiful snow!

Coming Up This Fishy Week...

Our classroom will continue to be a fishy place this week.  We’ll be learning a poem entitled “Fish.”  We’ll become fish, listen closely to the ending sounds of words in our poem and then we just might write a silly poem of our own!  Some of my favorite fish books will be part of our classroom time too.  “The Pout-pout Fish” and “Dear Mr. Blueberry” are just two of the books we’ll be diving into!

Keeping with a watery theme, our worship time this week will take a look at Jonah and the Big Fish.  Perhaps we will find our way into the belly of a big fish and hear about God’s love and compassion for everyone.

A sign-up sheet for items needed for our upcoming Art Show and Silent Auction will be out soon.  Keep your eyes open for it and if you are able to help out, we’d appreciate it!

Always in Motion!

We started out this morning making a list of things found in the ocean and the ways they move.  We also acted out each motion... that would have been a fantastic video!

We were busy in the water in our sensory table.  It was full of sea creatures enjoying their watery home.  We added colorful fish to our ocean floor as we swam around in scuba and snorkel gear.  We added some sparkles to our underwater mural too.  Next week, life will be added to our waters!

Enjoy your weekend and many prayers for good health all around!

Taking Shape

Our mural has begun to take shape!  The water is now up and more will be added each day.  Make sure to come in and take a look.

We enjoyed exploring the ocean floor with our very own, hand made scuba gear.  We also took a close look at some fantastic seashells.  We have such an awesome and creative God!  Ocean puzzles, books, and songs were also a big part of our morning.

Our worship time included learning the song 'I Will Make You Fishers of Men."  We read the Bible story about Jesus calling his disciples and had a fairly funny discussion about what "fishers of men" meant!

Your kids are awesome!  Thanks for a great day!

When to Keep Your Child Home

It seems that the season of sickness is upon Pullman!  We had several preschoolers out sick today, so I just want to take a moment to remind you about our policy on when to keep your child home.  Thank you for helping keep our preschool classroom as healthy as possible!

If your child is experiencing any of the following symptoms, he or she needs
to stay home.  We are committed to keeping all of the children as healthy as
possible.  If your child is brought to school sick, you will be asked to take
him/her home.  If your child becomes sick while at preschool, we will isolate
him/her from other children and contact the parent to pick him/her up
immediately.  Children need to be with family when not feeling well.  These
guidelines will be strictly enforced to ensure the health and safety of all.

  • Fever of 100 ˚F or higher
  • Vomiting on two or more occasions within the past 24 hours.
  • Diarrhea - three or more watery stools in a 24 hour period.
  • Draining rash.
  • Eye discharge or pink eye (must be treated for 24 hours before returning).
  • Fatigue that prevents participation in regular activities.
  • Lice or nits.
  • Heavy (green or discolored) nasal discharge
  • Constant cough.
  • Communicable diseases (chicken pox, etc.)

Coming Up This Week...

This week we will start a bubbly fun unit on the Aquarium!  We will be creating a big mural in our room that will be our classroom aquarium.  Watch it change and grow each time you come in.  At the end of our unit, it will be an amazing mural that we will have up for our annual Art Show and Silent Auction!

This week we will be learning a great song “Way Down Deep.”  We’ll be listening for rhyming sounds along with beginning and ending sounds of words.  We will be looking closely at shells to determine what shells are alike and different.  We will classify and categorize!   We’ll be playing in the water too, so please make sure your child has extra clothes at preschool!

Worship this week will focus on Jesus choosing his helpers, the disciples.  We will talk about being fishers of men.

Blessings to you this week!

Extra Fun

We had lots of extra fun today!  Grandma Karen came and helped us stencil powdered sugar snowflakes on top of gingerbread muffins.  They were delicious.  We enjoyed Chapel with pastor Dudley.  Singing, praying and hearing about God's Word upstairs in the sanctuary is always a special day.  We also had a marvelous time at Art with Miss Holly.  We made marbleized prints that will end up being covers to special books.

Counting Buddies

We had lots of fun with counting buddies at opening circle.  We paired up and played a fun counting game with our partners.  Lots of numbers, lots of teamwork, lots of learning!

We created some poofy artwork by painting with a shaving cream and glue mixture.  It dries with a nice, soft texture.  We also played carpet Candyland and made cards.

Worship time included reviewing a few new worship songs that help hid God's Word in our hearts and learning that Jesus felt at home in the temple.  We made a list of place that we felt comfortable and at home.

Enjoy this beautiful afternoon!

Counting Snowflakes

We had lots of mathematical fun today!  I had a certain number of snowflakes hidden inside my bag.  Each preschooler guessed how many I had and then we counted to see how many were really inside.  We talked about the total number of snowflakes.

During Worship, we sang a few new songs that focus on hiding God's Word in our hearts.  We heard about Jesus as a boy in the temple.  It was fun for the preschoolers to hear that Jesus had been a child too and had grown to be a young boy and into a man!

Our large motor time was split between those who wanted indoor playground and those who wanted to play in the snow.  Both groups enjoyed the time.

Coming Up This Week...

Welcome to a new and exciting week!  This week we will be working on some fun math skills including recognizing the total and recognizing quantities without counting.  Snowflakes, mittens and teamwork will get this mathematical job done!  We will also be identifying the letter of everyone’s first name through sight, sound and hearing.  Fun (and messy) open art projects are on the agenda along with some fun new ways to build.

Worship this week will focus on Jesus in the Temple.   We will discover that Jesus grew from a baby, to a boy and then to a man.  We will learn that God loves us as we grow and he helps s learn about Him.  A new song we will sing this week comes from Psalm 86:13.  The words to the song are simple, “God’s love for us is great!”

In class, we have started to talk about our upcoming Art Show and Silent Auction.  This is a super fun evening event where the preschooler’s art is displayed in our gallery and we hold a silent auction to raise money for preschool enrichment.  This event is something for the children to get excited about and look forward to.  Please mark your calendar and plan to attend!  More information will be coming in the next few weeks!

Blessings to you this week!

SHARE Day is always fun, especially for the preschoolers.  They love to talk about their items and they are doing a fabulous job listening to their peers too!

We enjoyed writing snowflake stories and illustrating a snowflake picture to go along with the story.  These are now displayed around the classroom.  They are certainly worth reading and appreciating the beautiful art.  Take a moment and come on in to see what they wrote!

We ran outside for about 10 minutes and enjoyed the "powdered sugar" snow falling from the sky.  It was beautiful.  The wind hadn't started yet, so it was quite peaceful and nice.

We ended the day with Miss Holly and Art.  We made snowman prints with pencil and styrofoam trays.  The preschoolers thought this was SUPER fun!

Looking at Snowflakes

Today we took an up close look at snowflakes by looking at micro-photography of individual snowflakes!  We discovered that no two snowflake are alike, they are each unique.  However, they do have something in common... they have 6 points!

We enjoyed stenciling snowflakes on gingerbread muffins for our snack, we did more investigating with snow in the sensory table, created art with craft balls, googly eyes and material squares and wrote snowflake stories.  Those will soon be available for your reading pleasure!

SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday!

Making Lists...

Today we learned about the phases of water (solid, liquid and gas).  We also made lists to describe water and snow.  Your preschoolers came up with some fantastic descriptive words.  While you are out and about, have conversations with your preschooler and find new words to describe the things you see around.  Robust vocabulary is very important for your preschooler!  They love "big" words and expanding vocabulary is wonderful!

During worship, we heard the story of The Good Samaritan.  We learned that kindness is a way to show and share God's love.  We've been learning a lot about kindness in our actions and our words.  We are striving to make both our words and our actions helpful, not hurtful.  We all make mistakes and are so thankful that God's grace fully covers us!

SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday this week!

Mom's Bible Study CANCELED Tonight

Our Mom's Bible Study is canceled tonight due to nasty road conditions.  See you next week!

What a wonderful snowy day!  We enjoyed learning about the different phases of water and made a list to describe ice.  We experimented with colors and salt in on snow in the sensory table.  We also began a snow drift piece of art that will take several days to complete.  It involves using wood curls made from woodworking. We also enjoyed drilling holes during woodworking today and cutting out snowflakes.

During worship we heard the story of "The Good Samaritan" and discussed his kindness to the hurt man.  We will be focusing on kindness, especially how we can use it with our peers!

SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday.  Enjoy the snow!

Smellin' Like a Man

When asked what we were doing with shaving cream today, one preschooler responded, "We're smellin' like a man!"  I love the things we hear in preschool!

Today we printed off pictures of each animal that crawled inside the mitten in our story.  Preschoolers could choose to cut out their pictures, color them, put them in a mitten...  We also enjoyed some sensory time with shaving cream (smelling like men), stenciling, hanging socks on the clothes line, reading some fun books and more.

We enjoyed drawing pictures in our prayer journals during worship time.  They were pictures that showed how God has been good to us!

PAJAMA DAY IS MONDAY AND TUESDAY!  Have a great weekend!

Mitten Stories

Your children wrote some fantastic mitten stories today!  They are displayed on the big bulletin board in our classroom.  Take a walk in and read all the wonderful stories.  You won't be disappointed!

Stenciling was a favorite activity today as was train building, mitten painting and hanging socks up on the clothes line (a great fine motor activity!).

We enjoyed Chapel with Pastor Dudley and we learned about saying "Thank-you."  We sang together, prayed together and heard from God's Word.

During Art with Miss Holly, we learned about the 3 Magi and the gifts they brought to Baby Jesus.  We even got to keep our own piece of frankincense!

Next Monday and Tuesday are PAJAMA Days!  Slippers are welcome in the classroom as well.

Please get your 2013 intention forms in right away.  Enrollment in filling quickly!

Back To It!

What a great morning!  It was fabulous to be back in the classroom with all the preschoolers who all seem just a bit taller!

We enjoyed the book, "The Mitten" by Jan Brett.  The story and illustrations are wonderful.  We then painted mittens, laced mittens, wrote our own mitten stories (to soon be displayed) and checked different items in our room to see if they would fit in a mitten.  We also discovered the differences between mittens and gloves.  Busy day!

Worship was about being thankful and grateful.  This is a wonderful time of year to learn about being grateful.  We read a book about manners and discovered that please and thank you are not the only manners out there.  Maybe your preschooler can tell you about it.  We prayed that God would help us have good manners everyday!
