Welcome to 2013!!!

Welcome to 2013!  It’s sure to be a fabulous year together in preschool!

This week is short, and we will use it to get reacquainted with the preschool routine.  We will also be having fun with the story “The Mitten” by  Jan Brett.  Watch for all thing mitten!  We’ll be lacing mittens, painting on huge mittens, sorting, working with left and right, sequencing and more.  I'm excited!

Worship this week will focus on being thankful and grateful.  With so much abundance at Christmas time, sometimes it is easy to forget to be thankful.

Enrollment for next fall is open!  You have a 2013 intention form in your box.  Please fill it out and return ASAP.  Spots are given first come, first served. Priority enrollment is open to church members and siblings already enrolled.  February 1, enrollment opens to siblings of those already enrolled.  Open enrollment to those on the waiting list begins March 1.

Check out the Upcoming Events Calendar to see what fun things are coming up.

I pray you all had a wonderful break.  I’m looking forward to stories from your children!

Saint Lucia

We had a fabulous presentation on Christmas in Sweden as well as the Festival of Saint Lucia.  The children took part in the celebration and we even had yummy Swedish snacks!  Thanks to Miss Marsha for telling us about Saint Lucia!

We also enjoyed art with Miss Holly today.  We made some fabulous Christmas trees by painting with forks!

The Light of the World

Addy reminded us today that candles at Christmas time remind us the Jesus in the light of the world, the light that came into the darkness!

Chapel was a special time today as each preschooler had a character from the Nativity story and placed their character at the stable when it was time.  We sang beautiful Christmas songs together and sang as each candle on the advent wreath was lit.

Charlie Brown Christmas music was in the background for centers time and large motor time, and the preschoolers couldn't have been happier!  Charlie Brown and Snoopy are well loved in this group of kiddos!

Dance Party!

What a busy day!  We finished up wrapping some special surprise Christmas gifts for parents that aren't suppose to opened until Christmas!  We did some fabulous beading, hands on play with some delicate nativity sets and made Nativity Memory sets to take home.

Since it was too yucky to play outside, we had a dance party!  Your kids have some amazing moves... might have to take a video of our next dance party!

Coming Up This Week...

We are looking forward to another week of Christmas celebrations from around the world!  We’ll also be beading, making Nativity number cards, working in our Handwriting books, reading some great Christmas books, and keeping the birth of Jesus at the forefront of our hearts during this time of Advent!

In our worship time, we will be following our advent devotional calendar.  I hope you have had the opportunity to use these at home.  They are wonderful!

Next week on Monday and Tuesday we will have our Happy Birthday parties for Jesus!  Parents and family are welcome to join us at 10:45am to celebrate with us.  It’s sure to be a great time.
Reminder that Christmas Break starts on December 19!  Can you believe the time has gone by so quickly?

May this time of Advent focus your hear on the reason we celebrate, JESUS!

Our Snack Cupboard is getting bare!  We could use crackers, granola bars, dried fruit, pretzels, etc.  We no longer have a peanut allergy in the classroom, but we do have a dairy allergy.  Thanks!

Nativity Sets

We mad our nativity sets today!  We used the three wood blocks that we made during woodworking and added figures  of Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus to make our own play nativity sets!  Thanks to Miss Holly for being such  a great Art teacher and helping us.  Thanks to Grandpa Ken for being such a great woodworking teacher too!

We enjoyed SHARE day as always.  It is so much fun to hear the children talk about their special items from home!

Enjoy the coming snow!

Today was a wonderfully full day!  We learned about Christmas in Mexico, and thanks to one of our wonderful families in preschool, we had a pinata to break!  We went around 3 times to each child, and it still held strong.  Mrs. Krantz took a turn, Mrs. Barrington to a turn, Pastor Dudley took a turn, a special Grandma took a turn and finally Miss Karen, our secretary, broke the pinata!  The preschooler began to chant her name... she will forever be remembered as the woman who made the candy fall!

We also made jingle bell bracelets, finished woodworking, decorate Christmas cookies and just had an all around great morning!

SHARE Day is tomorrow and Friday!

Shoes By The Tree

We put our shoes by the Christmas tree today in an effort to celebrate Saint Nicholas as they do in the Netherlands.  Each child found some fun surprises in their shoes after worship time!  They were all very excited.  We are enjoying learning about some of the Christmas traditions and customs around the world.

We did some woodworking today to get the blocks of wood ready for our upcoming art project.  We will be making a block nativity set with Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus!

SHARE Day is on Thursday!

Advent Candles

We were busy today with the start of a fun woodworking/art project, working on surprise projects that will end up under your Christmas trees, decorating paper trees to dazzle up our classroom, becoming Cheetahs visiting baby Jesus in the manger, playing hopscotch and more.  It was great!

In worship we used our advent calendar, lit our advent wreath and sang an advent candle song.  Ask your preschooler if they remember the song about the candles!

SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday this week!

Coming Up This Week...

Welcome December!  It seems somewhat impossible to be in the last month of 2012, but time flies when you’re having fun!  This week we will continue to hear about Christmas celebrations around the world from our dear friend Addy, the Advent angel.  We will do activities and crafts in the classroom that are similar to how the “country of the day” celebrates.  We will also be making our own block nativity sets.  This will be a project that will take a few days and the help of our Woodworking teacher and Art teacher.

In our worship time, we will be following our advent devotional calendar.  One was sent home with each family, so you can do this at home too!  It is a neat way to reinforce what they are learning about in preschool and focus on the true meaning of Christmas!  We are singing some wonderful Christmas songs too.   I hope your kids have been singing them at home!

MANY thanks to all who brought items for our food drive and for those parents who came along on our Dissmore’s field trip.

SHARE Day is this Thursday and Friday.  Mark the calendar!
