Today we made Christmas cookies and decorated them... and of course ate some at snack time.  We ALL enjoyed it!  We also charted out the food collected from the food drive.

Addy told us about a Christmas tradition is Greece.  Fresh basil is tied to a cross, dipped in water and used to sprinkle the water all around the house.  So, we made crosses with basil tied to them.  I thought it smelled delicious, but a few preschoolers did not agree!

Book orders are due tomorrow.  You can order online, or drop an order by tomorrow morning if you prefer.  There were some great books and great deals this month.  All the books will be back before Christmas Break.

Paper Chains

Today we heard about Christmas in China.  They celebrate with a tree of light, paper chains and paper flowers.  So today, we made paper chains.  We also decorated our tree of light with ornaments numbered 1-10.  We put them up in order!  We also made sparkly ornaments, tissue paper flowers, worked with the letters N and W and of course created the Bethlehem stable scene!

We made our big graph out of all the food we collected from the food drive.  We sorted the food into categories and the preschoolers put each item in it's proper spot.  It was great fun.  We counted 80 items!  Great job!!!

Our field trip is Friday.  I still need a few permission forms from some of you!

Advent is all about waiting for Jesus, and Addy told us all about celebrating advent!  The preschoolers love our advent angel and today she told us about celebrating Christmas in the Chezch Republic.  On Christmas, they put a fish scale under their dinner plate for good luck!  During centers we made fish and covered them with scales!

We saw alot of gift delivering in big trucks today in the building centers.  Tractors, dump trucks and any other vehicle that could haul a load were full of drums, presents, jingle bells and other Christmas stuff.  We made cards, did paper punching and enjoyed becoming the nativity story in Dramatic Play!

Our worship time introduced the Advent Wreath and we read about Jesus being the Light of the World.  We lit one candle on the wreath, the candle of HOPE.

We have begun our Advent Adventure (a little early) with the flying in of Addy our Advent Angel.  Each night she flies somewhere in the world to discover how children celebrate Christmas differently in different places.  Today we heard about Argentina.  Your preschooler will be happy to tell you all about Addy!

We made luminaries during centers time, complete with a battery operated tea light.  We also enjoyed playing out the nativity story with a stable and manger in our Dramatic Play area.  There is so much fun nativity learning in our classroom!

We began our advent calendar during worship time... the same calendar will come home for you to use in your home if you so choose.

Make sure to turn in your permission slips for the Friday field trip!  If you can drive, please let me know!

Coming Up...

We are entering my FAVORITE time of the year to teach preschool!  I ADORE teaching during Advent and seeing the wonderment of Christmas through the eyes of your children.  It is wonderful!

This week the children will meet Addy, the advent angel.  Each day she will tell us of her journey somewhere around the world and share how children there celebrate Christmas.  Many of our projects during centers time will reflect the celebrations of that country.  We will also have the manger scene set up in dramatic play with all of the costumes.  Tiny nativity scenes will be found throughout the room for the children to play with and engage in the holy story of Christ’s birth.

We will be finishing up our food drive this week and making a HUGE graph with all our collected items.

Our Friday class will be heading to Dissmores for a field trip of Friday.  Please turn in your permission slips and left me know if you can help drive.

With snowy weather upon us, I want to remind you that if the Pullman School District is delayed or cancelled, preschool will be cancelled for the day.  I will post any cancellation on our blog by 7am.  If you want a phone call, please let me know and I will add you to my call list.

May our Lord give you much peace and joy this week!

I pray that you all have a happy, healthy and safe Thanksgiving!  See you after break!

Many, many thanks to all the adult volunteers who helped out on our field trip to Winco.  Also, a huge thanks to the manager of Winco, Eric, who was the best tour guide we could have asked for.  The kids and adults thought he was great!  The staff was courteous and friendly and made us feel very welcome!

We had so much fun having our snack in the break room and spending our dollar bills on items for our food drive.  Thanks for a great morning!

Paddy Bear

Another fantastic turkey day is under our belts!  We enjoyed making headbands, puppets, doing the turkey stretch and singing a song about a silly turkey!

The preschoolers also made their very own hospital for our very own Paddy Bear.  She has an injury and many Doctors were taking care of her.  Pictures were drawn to show what was going on inside our Paddy.  Blood was taken to be tested, and the Doctors worked together to find out what the best treatment for our precious bear would be.

We headed upstairs for Chapel with Pastor Dudley.  We heard about the 10 lepers who Jesus healed and only one came back to thank Him.  We said a prayer for everyone who will be traveling this next week too!

It was a turkey sort of day in the classroom this morning!  We made turkey headbands, turkey puppets, played a turkey stretch game, played Turkey Trot number game, had a turkey puppet show and sang a song about a turkey names Albuquerque.  It was a great day!

For worship time, we sang a few songs, including one that is a verse from Scripture that will now be hidden in our hearts!  We made leaves that told what we would like to thank God for and added them to our Thanksgiving tree.

Our field trip to Winco is on Thursday!  We are looking forward to this super fun trip!

Coming Up...

Thanksgiving is what our week will be about!  We will be hearing the story of the very first Thanksgiving, working with the items collected from our food drive (counting, sorting, classifying…), becoming little turkeys and being thankful.    It’s sure to be a fun filled and exciting week!

We are still collecting items for our food drive. At the end of the month we will be making a HUGE floor graph with the food and hygiene items we have collected.  Please donate as you are able.

A Great Thursday

We just had an all around great day!  We enjoyed one of my favorite books... it didn't have anything to do with leaves, but I just wanted to read it to the kids today.  It was "The Bat Jamboree" by Kathy Applet.  The kids liked it too!

We finished up our Leaf Books today and sent them home.  I hope you are able to take a look at it with your preschooler and have them tell you about it.  They especially likes the water and pennies today.

We spent some time outside before the temp. dropped to super cold!  We finished the day making leaf imprints in clay with Ms Holly.

Just a reminder that if Pullman School District has a delay or school cancellation due to inclement weather, preschool will be cancelled for the day.  I will post any cancellation on this blog by 7am.

School Cancellation Due to Weather Reminder

With the chance of snow upon us, I just want to remind everyone of our policy.  If the Pullman School District has a late start or cancellation due to inclement weather, preschool will be cancelled for that day.  Any preschool cancellation will be posted on this blog before 7am.  If you prefer a phone call, you must request a phone call with Mrs. Krantz.  Thanks!

Leaf Observations

Today we looked at 5 different types of leaves and made many observations.  We made guesses as to why they all looked different, but were all leaves.  We discovered that they came from different trees!  It was fun to hear all the ideas as we worked to find our answer.

Our Food Drive has begun, so if you are willing and able, please contribute to our efforts!  The drop off basket is at the entrance to our classroom.

REMINDER... NO PRESCHOOL ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12.  Take a moment to remember our Veterans!

Leaf Rubbings

Today we enjoyed taking a close look at leaves and then making leaf rubbings.  It was so fun to see how the leaf showed up on the paper.  The kids had lots of words to describe what they saw.  Some thought the rubbing looked like a picture of s tree, some said it was like a shadow.  Good observations preschoolers!

We are just about done with our leaf books.  The preschoolers are very anxious to bring them home and share with you!  They are taking great pride in their work.

We made a list of things we were thankful for during our worship time.  Many were thankful for Pastor Dudley handing out his candy!

We enjoyed playing in loads of leaves to end our day.  SO MUCH FUN!!!

Upcoming Field Trips...
T/Th Group - Winco on November 15
M/W/F Group - Dissmores on November 30

T/TH Group Field Trip

November 15 (T/TH Group)
Winco in Moscow
We will tour the store and all the departments.  At the end, each preschooler will be given $1 to purchase a food item for our food drive.  They will get to go through the line, purchase their item, and put it in our donation basket at the preschool!  We need parent volunteers and drivers.  I'll have a sign up sheet at the preschool and permission slips will be going home to be signed and returned!

The highlight of our day was certainly playing is the massive amount of leaves in Pastor Dudley's front yard.  The preschoolers had so much fun.  Giggles were continuous!  It was a beautiful November morning, perfect  for making piles of leaves, throwing leaves, chasing friends and laughing, laughing, laughing!

We also made leaf rubbings, made our own stamps in woodworking, worked with inch cubes, made a list of things we are thankful for during our worship time, and learned a song about a little robin.

Be watching for more information regarding next weeks field trips.  We will need parent volunteers and drivers.  I should have it all ironed out tomorrow morning!

Coming Up This Week...

I’d like to start by giving many thanks to all those who signed up and brought items for the Pumpkin Party.  I hope everyone that came had a good time!  I think the preschoolers had a lot of fun and I know our congregational volunteers did too!

This week we will be finishing up our leaf books, making leaf rubbings, looking for differences in leaves from different types of trees, and if weather permits, we will be having some major fun playing outside in deep leaves!  We will continue work in our Handwriting Books, and continue to work on Capital Letter Identification.  This week we will be looking closely at the letters L and F.

The next two weeks we will be focusing on having a thankful heart as part of our Worship time together.  We will be memorizing some simple Scripture passages, hearing about thankful people in the Bible and making lists of what we are thankful for.

This month we will also be looking at ways to serve those around us.  One tangible way we will be doing this is through our Food Drive.  We will be collecting non-perishable food items and health items (soap, toothpaste…) that will be donated to the local food bank.   We will start collecting right away!  Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanking God for your children today and everyday!
Mrs. Krantz and Mrs. Barrington

Important Information
Please have a hat and gloves or mittens available for your child each day.  You can leave some in their cubby if you would like!

During the month of November, we will be having a food drive.  All donated items will be given to the local food bank.

Next week each class will be taking a field trip to a local bakery.  I will give you the exact times and dates as soon as I have all the information!

Thursday, November 1, 2012

We started some leaf learning today.  Each child will eventually end up with his or her own leaf book!  Each child picks a leaf and it becomes theirs.  They get to draw a picture of their leaf, measure it, time how long it takes for it to fall to the ground and a few other things.  They will have some pretty great books when they are finished!  We also made number posters with leaf stickers, matching the number with the correct amount.

We enjoyed Art with Miss Holly today.  We mixed paints to create the color orange.  Ask your preschooler what two colors we used!

Have a fantastic first day of November!
