September flew by and we are ready to welcome October with some fabulous fun learning.  This week we will be taking a closer look at apples.  We will be taste testing, making applesauce,  painting apples, taking a closer look at the inside of apples, and creating apple number cards.  We are adding the Name Station to our centers choices this week.  Ask your preschooler about it this week.  We will also be doing some fun size comparisons, and working with top, middle and bottom.  I’ll be using a stop light to work with this concept.  Next time you are in the car at a stoplight with your preschooler, bring it up!

Our Bible experience is about the Rainbow and God’s promises to us.  We will be making some rainbow projects during the morning and praying in our prayer journals.  Chapel is on Wednesday.

There is no Preschool on Friday.

Our Mom’s Bible Study starts Monday October 1!  We meet at the couches at 8pm.  I’m looking forward to it!

Leaf Hunt

We enjoyed a morning with Mrs. Eld, as Mrs. Barrington was out sick.  SHARE day was a wonderful time with each child talking about his or her special item from home.

We took advantage of the beautiful morning and went on a leaf hunt.  We were watching closely for signs of fall.  We used hand lenses to take a closer look at our items.  We compared sizes, colors and shapes of the items we found.  We plan to go out again in a couple of weeks and see what has changed.

Chapel with Pastor Dudley involved some lively singing and sharing about things that have been lost.  We heard the story of the woman who lost a coin and looked for it until it was found.

Art with Miss Holly was today too.  We took crayons and drew underwater pictures then painted over it with blue paint.  They are beautiful!

Storm Clouds

Our morning circle was a lot of fun with Mrs. Krantz putting magnetic letters on the board, but they weren't quite right!  The preschoolers each had a turn to help the letters find the right way to be on a line.  We had some lazy letters that were sleeping, some active letters doing a flip and some just silly letters.  The preschoolers were helpful showing each letter (and calling them by name) how to be on their line.

We enjoyed Cooking with Grandma Karen (Mrs. Krantz's Mom) today.  Ask your preschooler what we made.  We also painted storm clouds as we are learning about Noah's Ark.  We mixed black and white paint to make different shades of gray.

During worship we all crowded into the "ark" and decided it might have been a bit tight in the ark.  But God still kept Noah, his family and the animals safe.  We talked about ways God keeps us safe too.

SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday this week!

Sorting by Size

We welcomed fall with this class as we sangs a fun autumn song and read a book about a colorful leaf hunt.  We made sure to learn about each part of the book as we read along.

Our classroom is looking more like Fall with all the fall colors being added to our display boards.  Painting with red, yellow, orange and brown were part of our morning as was making fall leaves with our hand prints.  These are part of our fall tree on the big bulletin board.  Woodworking was today too, and we worked on step one of our spy scopes.

Thursday is SHARE Day.  have your child choose ONE item to bring to tell their class about.  Please help them choose three things to say about their special item.  During our opening circle time, they will have the chance to SHARE with us!

Our Mom's Bible Study begins on Monday, October 1 at 8pm.  Please let me know if are interested in attending and did not sign up on the list.  Thanks!

Welcome Fall!

We welcomed fall today with a fun songs about leaves and trees.  We explored fall colors with paints, made hand print leaves to add to our Fall bulletin board, did some pattern cards and got our hands busy in moon sand.  We also enjoyed step one in a woodworking project.  The kids worked with Ken to drill a hole to begin our spyscopes!  They used a tabletop drill press!

We heard the account of Noah and the flood during our worship time.  We had some great outside time as well.

Mrs. Eld was our substitute today as I spent the morning in the office.  She is very well liked by the preschoolers and will be in our classroom several times in October.

Mom's Bible Study

Our Mom's Bible Study is set to begin! We will meet at 8pm on Monday evenings at the couches outside the preschool room. We will be going through the Beth Moore study "Jesus The One and Only." Our first night will be October 1. Some of you already have the book, please bring it. If you don't have it, they will be available for $5. If needed, the preschool can cover the cost of the book for you, just let Becky know. Please let me know if you have any questions. I am really excited for this opportunity. We have some fabulous leaders and I look forward to getting into the Word with you!

Coming Up This Week...

Starting this week and going through the month of October, we will be enjoying some autumn learning!  We will welcome autumn and work with some of the fabulous colors of the season.  We will watch and experience the mixing of colors and begin creating some autumn scenes in our room.  We will also be having fun with the different parts of a book, positioning of capital letters, vertical and horizontal lines and working with big curves and little curves to form letters.   We will be sorting by colors, comparing sizes of objects, counting and one-to-one correspondence as well as working to understand the last number said is the total.

SHARE Day is this week on Thursday and Friday.  This is the chance for your preschooler to choose ONE item from home and bring it to tell us about.  Please help your preschooler find three things to say about their item.  SHARE Day is usually one of the favorite days for our preschoolers!

Our Bible experience is about being Safe in the Ark.  We will hear the account of the flood and God keeping Noah and his family safe.  We will be including some art projects during centers time to reinforce our learning and we will have some hands on arks for the preschoolers to play with and retell what they have head and learned.

Each month Mrs. Krantz has one day to work in the office and do Director type stuff!  This week I will be in the office on Monday.  Mrs. Eld will be our substitute.  This will be her third year working as a substitute teacher for the program and she does a fabulous job.  I’m sure your children will love her!  I’ll be onsite, just in the office.
Blessings on your week!

Sound Bingo

One of the favorite activities of the day was "Sound Bingo!"  It's just like any other bingo game, but we listened to the sound and then found the picture of the object making the sound on the bingo card.  This was a HUGE hit!

We've also worked on our inside, outside and very soft voices.  We practices with the help of a silly song.  Ask your preschooler about it!

We read a book today and began by making predictions about what we would read.  We took a close look at the cover and gave our ideas.  Then we read the book, "It's Time to Sleep" by Mem Fox.

Enjoy your weekend!  Our Mom's Bible Study will start on Monday, October 1 at 8pm.  We will meet at the couches outside of the preschool.  Please let me know if you have any question.

I'll start this post with how our day ended!  Miss Holly came for Art and she showed us pictures of yellow sunflowers and talked about Vincent Van Gogh.  We headed over to the tables and painted our own sunflower paintings.  Beautiful!

The rest of the day included prayer journals at worship, star building, play dough, sorting foam shapes, constructing a train track and cooking with Grandma Karen.  We made self portraits out of fruit, vegetables, and a few tiny marshmallows.  They were wonderful!  Ask your preschooler about them.

Sound Detectives

We had some super fun listening to different sounds and figuring out what they were!  We heard thunder, a toilet flush, a timer, a cow, a fire truck, a train and more!  The kids enjoyed being sound detectives and listening closely to each sound.

Fishing for letters, shapes and numbers continues to be a favorite choice at centers time.  We are making some neat discoveries with our magnets and building some elaborate structures with our star builders.  This class has mastered so many preschool skills in such a short amount of time!  Our lines are fabulous, we are getting much better at waiting for a turn and using our words to problem solve is becoming more and more common!  It is such a joy to be part of all of it!

Chapel with Pastor Dudley was today.  We looked at a group of keys.  They looked different, were different shape and sizes and had different jobs, but they were all important!  Can you guess how Pastor related these keys to your children?

We ended out day with a chart.  The preschoolers LOVE making these charts and are learning about greater than and less than.  Who knew learning could be so much fun?

Sharing a "Cheese" Picnic

Thank you again for taking the time at home to prepare the posters for preschool.  This really has been and continues to be a wonderful activity in the classroom.  We enjoyed fishing for letters, numbers and shapes this morning.  As a whole, our class is really doing well waiting for each person's turn when we do a big group activity.  Lining up is also near perfection!  We have a group of quick learners!

We enjoyed woodworking with Ken today.  This was our T/Th group's first woodworking day.  We learned about safety glasses and the safety rules for woodworking.  They used a child sized saw to saw wood this morning.  We also made structures with our star builders, created people and robots out of various shapes and googly eyes, painted, fished, sorted frogs, and did some reading.

Worship included singing, praying, and hearing about God's love and forgiveness through the account of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

We partnered up to have a "cheese" picnic as we practiced on-to-one correspondence.  Ask your preschooler what we did!

The sign up sheet for our Mom's Bible Study is still out if you are interested.  We'll be getting this going very soon!

Monday, September 17, 2012

We enjoyed learning more about 2 of our preschoolers today as they shared their "All About Me" posters.  We also had a great time taking turns as we fished for letters, numbers and shapes.  It was fun to identify if the fish was a letter, number or shape when it came up at the end of the line.  The preschoolers continued this game during centers time!

Today was our first "Woodworking with Ken" day.  This is bound to be a favorite each week.  Many of the preschoolers were excited for a second turn.  We talked about how to be safe, the importance of safety glasses and that Ken is Mrs. Krantz's Dad!  We also enjoyed playing with magnets in the sensory table, painting with several mediums, fishing, taking care of babies and making patterns with our peg boards.

Snack was special today as one of our families brought apples and honey to celebrate Rosh Hashanah.  At worship we heard about Adam and Eve and their mistake when they sinned and ate the fruit they weren't suppose to.  We also heard about the special plan of Jesus and of God's love and forgiveness.

We were happy to be outside again now that the smoke had cleared.  These morning outside are fabulous!

Our Mom's Bible Study sign up is out by the sign in/out binder.  Please sign up if you are interested.  It will be either Monday or Tuesday evenings starting around 8pm.  Let me know if you have any questions!

Coming Up This Week...

I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of our “All About Me” posters this week!  Our walls are filling up with these wonderful posters.  Thanks so much for working on these with your preschooler!  We’ll be doing some fishing this week to help us identify the difference between letters, numbers, and shapes.  We’ll also become sound detectives as we play a game to help phonological awareness grow.  We’ll make predication with books, pair up with a partner for some fun with one-to-one correspondence and of course get our hands busy with art, writing, building, dressing up and all the wonderful elements that preschool has to offer.  We also will start “Woodworking with Ken” this week and”Ccooking with Grandma Karen.”  These wonderful weekly volunteers are Mrs. Krantz’s parents.  Ken will work one-on-one with each child to learn some fun woodworking skills.  This week we will be sawing wood!  Cooking is on Thursday this week and we will be making people salads.

Our Bible experience  is the account of Adam and Eve making a poor choice in the Garden of Eden.  We will learn about forgiveness and God’s love even when we make a big mistake (sin).   I hope your child is bringing home some of our worship songs!  There are more to come!  Chapel is on Wednesday this week.

It's a Smoky Day

Yes, during our weather time we sang "It's a Smoky Day."  We even added a smoky picture to our pictures to choose from.  We didn't go outside today because the air quality is so poor.  I'm hoping the smoke soon leave our area and we will be back to enjoying the outdoors!

We did some work with opposites today.  We also made music with our rhythm sticks.  Our fine motor muscles got a workout with a special kind of finger painting.  We also made creation collages and beading.

Our worship experience was about creation once again and we shared prayers together.

Our day ended with art with Miss Holly.  Check out the beautiful artwork above the cubbies!

Have a great weekend!

Hurry Burry

We had another great morning at preschool!  After our 2 new "All About Me" posters we played a game with our Big Line, Little Line, Big Curve and Little Curve.  They hid in a bag and we took turns grabbing one at a time out of the bag and then naming the piece that had been pulled out.  We also sang a song about where we start our letters.  Ask you preschooler!

We made creation collages and mosaics during centers time.  We also played with shaving cream at the table.  It's fun to write and draw in the shaving cream.  We heard some great giggling from that table!

We listened to and sang a song entitled "Hurry Burry."  It a song about a very busy house.  As we listen, we distinguish sounds that are in the background.  Some sounds are made by a person, some by an object, others by animals.  The preschoolers loved this activity and I have the song stuck in my head!

We enjoyed Chapel with Pastor Dudley and we had our first day or Art with Miss Holly.  She taught us how to use our paintbrushes correctly.  Then we used water to paint black paper and followed up with chalk on the wet paper.  When they dry, they should be fantastic!

Who is Mr. Smiley?

We enjoyed two more "All About Me" posters today.  We also learned a song helping us to remember where we start our letters.  Ask you preschooler who Mr. Smiley is too!

During centers time we made creation mosaics with the help of Miss Annie.  Miss Annie is a volunteer from our congregation who comes each Wednesday.  This will be her 4th year with us!  We also got our hands moving in shaving cream, sorting lots of different creatures and making cards to put in our mailbox.

We worked with the Creation account today as we used the pictures of each day of creation.  We had something else to help retell the story.  Maybe your preschooler can tell you about it.  This hint is "nesting."

Our closing circle included a fun circle dance.  This class is doing a great job of learning to work together and follow directions!

A sign up sheet is out for our upcoming Mom's Bible Study!  If you are interested, please sign up on the sign up sheet near the sign in/out binder.  This will be the Beth Moore study "Jesus the One and Only."  We will meet either Monday or Tuesday evenings at 8pm or a bit after.  If you sign up, please indicated which night(s) works for you schedule.  I'm looking forward to this!

God Made the World

The preschoolers are enjoying sharing their "All About Me" Posters!  It is so fun to see them share their posters with such joy and pride.  The posters are displayed in the classroom.  Come on in and take a look when you get a chance!

We did some one-on-one work with writing our names.  I really enjoy having a little bit of one-on-one time with each preschooler.  We also did some painting, cutting pictures out of magazines, working with ponies, driving tractors and making letters with our wooden pieces.

We sorted a big bunch of hearts today.  We decided to sort them by color.  We worked as a team to get them all in the correct grouping.  They did some great work together!

We learned the song "God Made the World" and heard the account of creation.  This song is a quick favorite and was sung off and on throughout the rest of the morning!

If anyone is available to help stain the fence this Saturday morning, please let me know ASAP!  Thanks.

Take a Peek!

Marvelous Monday

Our very first Monday was marvelous.  We enjoyed seeing 2 "All About Me" posters today.  The presenters were very excited to share with their class all about the items on each poster.  It was very enjoyable for all of us!  We also met big line, little line, big curve and little curve today.  These friends will help us write and identify our letters.

Each preschooler spent some individual time with Mrs. Krantz as they learned how to write their names.  We also worked those fine motor muscles with tongs, did some creative art work with dot paints, sorted colorful gems, and a variety of other fun things.

Our Bible story this week is the Creation account.  We learned about how God made the world and everything in it in just 7 days!  Some pictures helped us see the order of creation and we sang a few creation songs.  Throughout the morning, we identified sounds of animals that God created!

Some of our group activities included grouping squares according to their colors and learning in verses out.  Ask your preschooler the fun game we played to identity in and out.  If they can't remember, ask them about the bean bag and hula hoop!

Coming Up...

Our first week was an enormous amount of fun and we are ready to get going one week #2!  This week we will begin sharing our “All About Me Posters!”  The preschoolers love sharing about themselves and their family.  It is a neat way to get to know one another and get a peek into the family culture of each individual child.  Thanks for working on this with your preschooler.  I hope it is a cherished effort together.  We will also be focusing on writing names, identifying big line, little line, big curve and little curve.  We’ll being identifying patterns, sorting alike and different and listening to sounds that are either spoken sounds or environmental sounds.  The great thing is that while we learn all these things, we will be playing!

During worship this week we will be learning about Creation.  Some fabulous worship songs will be part of our worship time along with thanking God in our prayer journals for the creation of the daytime and nighttime skies.    Chapel with Pastor Dudley is on Thursday this week.

If we can round up some volunteer help for this coming Saturday morning, we would like to stain the new fence.  If you are able to help, please let me know ASAP.  If I can get enough volunteers by Thursday, we will make a go of it.

Have a great week!

The End of our First Week

As our week came to an end, we continued getting to know one another and the classroom.  We are working on recognizing our right hands as we used them to say the Pledge and to shake hands when we greet one another.

Centers time included some roller painting on the big easel, lots of dress up, fine motor work with pegs and sorting colors, trucks, and reading some great books.

Learning to take turns and be patient as we wait was part of our time together while we played the drum and kept the beat with one another.  We sang a fun song as we kept the beat.  Ask your preschooler if they remember the words!

Next week we will begin sharing our "All About Me" posters.  Check the calendar to see when you child is scheduled to share!

Have a great weekend!

Shaking Hands

Each morning, our day starts with a handshake and a stamp on the right hand of each child!  This is going to help us learn our right and left hands and how to greet one another.  It is very helpful as we learn The Pledge of Allegiance!  During circle, we learned a song about greeting one another.  We give the person we are greeting our right hand, look them in the eye, put a smile on our face, and say "Hi!"  We sang and practiced greeting our preschool friends.

One of our projects today helped us see just how special we are as we made mirrors and decorated them.  We also sorted colored gems, bowled on numbers, played store, did some major work with tractors and a whole lot more.

We made some music with a wonderful drum as we sang a song about a pony named Macaroni.  In our worship time we prepared our prayer journals.  Throughout the year, we will use these journals to pray through our pictures.  Children use pictures to communicate in so many ways, so it is wonderful way to communicate with Jesus!

The kids are loving the outdoor space.  Digging, raking, arranging logs, collecting pine cones, mowing the lawn, pushing wheelbarrow and pulling wagon were all part of our time outside.  Busy, busy, busy!

Make sure to check the "About Me Poster" calendar to see what date your child will be sharing his or her poster.  We start sharing them next week!

Another Great Start

Again, I have a fabulous group of preschoolers to work with this year.  It is such a privilege!  We spent our morning learning names, discovering the classroom, and making new friends.

During our centers time we enjoyed play dough, scissors and paper, dressing up, playing with animals in a castle, working the John Deere tractors, measuring with tape measures, and buying items at a store.  It was a wonderful time!

We practiced some rhythm with our sticks.  We learned about resting position, ready position and the proper way to play our sticks.  We have some blossoming musicians in our group.

We enjoyed our first Chapel with Pastor Dudley.  Chapel is held upstairs in the sanctuary.  We sing songs, pray together and Pastor Dudley teaches us some wonderful things from the Bible.  Today, we learned about how God loves each and every one of us!

Our time outside was glorious!  Raking, lawn mowing, digging, sliding, dancing, pedaling and running were all happening in our outdoor spaces.

We are looking forward to an incredible year together.  Thanks for the opportunity to teach your kiddos!

Our First Day

I can honestly say that this group of children exceeded my expectations!  What a wonderful group of kids!  I am feeling very blessed to be given the opportunity to teach these children.

Our morning included some time learning how our routine works at preschool.  We learned about our morning song, the Pledge of Allegiance, calendar time, weather time and the schedule for the day.  We enjoyed learning names with Hickity Pickity, our Bumble Bee!

We explored the classroom together to discover what exactly was in our room.  We visited each area and chatted about what happens in each place.  Then we got busy playing and learning!  Water color painting, play dough forming, scissors and paper, fire trucks saving the day, farm animals in the barns, doll house play and reading in the book area were all part of our morning together.

For our transition time we worked on a little bit of rhythm with our rhythm sticks.  I was so proud of how well these preschoolers followed directions and made music together!  Our worship together included a candle... ask your preschooler what we did with the candle!

We had some wonderful time outside and then made a list at closing circle about our favorite parts of the morning.  Everyone had a favorite to share!

I am really looking forward to see what this year has in store!

Our First Week of Preschool... What's Coming Up!

WELCOME TO PRESCHOOL!  We are very excited to get the school year started.  This week we will focus a lot on getting to know one another (especially names), getting to know the classroom, establishing our morning routine, and discovering that preschool is a safe and wonderful place to be.

Each day we have a special time of worship together that includes prayer, singing, a Bible story and hands on learning.  We are also blest to have Chapel with Pastor Dudley!  Chapel flip flops between Wednesday and Thursday each week.  This week it will be on Wednesday.  Chapel is a treasured time for the kids as they adore Pastor Dudley… and he adores them too!

This week I will begin sending home “All About Me” posters for you and your child to decorate and bring back to preschool on your assigned day.  You’ll have one week to finish your homework, but feel free to bring it whenever you have finished.  These posters will be shared at circle time and then displayed in the classroom.  2 children per day will share their poster until every child is on our wall.  It is a fun way for us to get to know each other and the kids love seeing their posters displayed in their classroom!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Our prayers are with you as you begin this school year.  Please pray for us too!  Blessing to you this week!

Important Information

Please remember that we like to get messy at preschool!  Please send your preschooler in clothing you don’t mind getting messy.
