A Blessing From Pastor Dudley

I think the most moving part of this morning, at least from this teacher's perspective, was our time with Pastor Dudley,  He is not going to be in town for our closing program due to family commitments, so he took time today to say a prayer of blessing over each child at the altar rail.  It was a moment to remember!

We also had the chance to enjoy the fun of technology today as we skyped with one of our classmates who was home sick... and today just happened to be his birthday.  We enjoyed singing to him and wishing him a very Happy Birthday!

Thursday and Friday are SHARE Days.  Our Program is tomorrow night at 6:30!  We will start right at 6:30, so please be prompt!  We are very excited for this wonderful evening!

Trip to the ER

It was a wonderful day for a field trip!  Many thanks to Pullman Regional Hospital for welcoming us for a visit to the ER!  Special thanks to Cathy for being our nurse on call.  She did a great job showing the preschoolers lots of the tools that a Dr. and Nurse would use on a patient.  She showed them that the ER isn't a scary place but a great place to get help when needed.  We even got to watch Mrs. Barrington's heart beat on the monitor!  Thanks to the parents who came along and drove!

Bear Hospital

Our program is coming along!  I'm very proud of your children and the great job they are doing as they practice for the closing program.  You have many reasons to be proud!

This week, the children are choosing their centers!  Today the chose sensory table, bear hospital, baby hospital, zoo, listening center and a few other dun things.  We pulled out 2 wheelchairs and the Doctors and Nurses took the big bears for a ride around the hospital.  Wonderful, creative fun!

During our worship time we played a silly David and Goliath game and heard the fantastic story.

We ended with our last music session with Miss Marsha.  Thank you Marsha for growing the love of music in our preschoolers!

A Few Last Week Items

Closing Program and Graduation
The Program starts right at 6:30pm.  It will be held upstairs in the sanctuary.  Please keep your preschooler with you until they are invited to join their teachers up front.  After they are done with their performance, the children that are not graduating will return to you for the remainder of the program.  Those that are graduating will stay up front and receive their certificates.  After they have all received their certificates, they will return to their seats with you.  The children will join us up front one more time to give a blessing to everyone.
When the program is finished you are invited to head downstairs to enjoy a short reception.
Those of you who have signed up to bring food or drinks, please take them downstairs before the program begins.
Thanks so much for a FABULOUS year!

Please join us for our last day of preschool Ice Cream Party!  T/Th class will be at 11:00 on Thursday.  M/W/F class will be at 11:00 on Friday.  We are hoping to be outside!

Summer Help
I’m looking for a few people who could volunteer for a few hours this summer to help with some addition to our outdoor learning!  Please let me know if you might be able to help.  The project will most likely take place in mid to late July.

A Sweet Day!

We started off our morning with a wonderful program practice.  Your kids are going to do a fabulous job at the closing program!

We had a special visit from Scientist Ben.  He showed us how liquid nitrogen freezes all kinds of stuff.  He shattered a carnation, used a banana as a hammer, made a marshmallow quite hard, and we finished by making ice cream!  It was quite creamy!  Needless to say, the preschoolers found the demonstrations quite amazing!

We enjoyed some birthday cupcakes and head up to chapel with Pastor Dudley.  We finished off the day with this group's last art session with Miss Holly.  We made cookie color wheels... we sent the cookies home!

Tuesday is our ER field trip and we will leave right at 9:15 for the ER.  We'll be back by 10:15 and will finish the morning with normal preschool!

We enjoyed a day full of outdoor centers!  This included exploration of bubbles.  We used fly swatters to make hundreds of tiny bubbles all at once.  This was an enormous amount of fun.  We also used pop up tents to have a neighborhood, did some digging for jewels, got our hands busy with play dough, did a little biking and had fun with chalk art.

We headed inside to practice for our program.  This is coming along quite well.  You have some talented kids.  We stayed in the sanctuary and heard the story of Jesus blessing the little children.  We talked about how Jesus had been a child too!  He had been 3, 4, 5 and even 6 years old.  He knows what it is like to be a child and He loves us so very much!

We closed the morning with Music with Miss Marsha.  We love our time with her!

Coming Up...

Two weeks left!  We are going to be learning just a bit about Doctors and Nurses as we get ready for our field trip to the ER on Tuesday the 22nd.  We’ll be making some pretty fun things, creating a hospital, caring for wounds and having some fun with band aids.  If you would like to donate some band aids for the cause, please feel free!  We will also be spending a larger amount of time preparing for our closing program.

In worship we will hear about how much Jesus loves children.

There is a sign-up sheet for items to be brought for our reception after the closing program on May 24.  Please sign up for something if you are able.

May 22 is our ER Field Trip.  This is a Tuesday.  If your child attends M/W/F he/she is welcome to join us as long as a parent or adult joins them.  I need to know ahead of time that you will be attending.

This summer we will be adding a new outdoor play component to our preschool!  This project is going to take some volunteer help and volunteer muscle!  If you would like to help out this summer, sign up on the sheet by the sign in binder with your email address and phone number.  The project will most likely take place sometime in the last half of July.

Wow...We Were Busy!

SHARE Day was fantastic as always.  There were some pretty amazing items to see and play with!  We will have SHARE Day one last time on the very last day of school.

Centers was very busy as we wrapped up our special surprise projects for Mother's Day, frosted cupcakes baked in ice cream cones, and worked on our big woodworking project.  Half of the class finished their big project today. The other half will make their project next week.

Art with Miss Holly taught us about Mary Cassatt.  We looked at many of her wonderful painting of mothers and their children.

Wrapping Up

Today we literally wrapped up a month long project!  The kids were so proud to see the finished product and are very excited to share it with you on Mother's Day!

We did some big time work practicing some of our music for the upcoming program.   We also were able to finally plant our flowers in the front flower bed outside the office door.  That was a lot of fun for the kids.

We enjoyed chapel with Pastor Dudley upstairs in the sanctuary.  We love to sing with Pastor Dudley!

SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday!

Crazy Train

We chugged along today as we learned more about trains.  We put together alphabet trains, number trains and created our own crazy trains made up of all kinds of things!  We had a visitor is our room this morning.  He will be attending preschool next fall, so we showed him the ropes!

SHARE Day is Thursday and Friday.  Mark your calendar!

Monday, May 7, 2012

This morning we all were given tickets to climb on board The Color Train!  We listened for our ticket color to be called and then we joined the train.  We made a pretty great train all hooked together!  We also made a great list of all we knew about trains.  It was an impressive list.

Our centers time included building crazy trains out of all kinds of miscellaneous items... egg cartons, paper cups, toilet paper tubes, string and tape.  We also decorated cupcakes baked in ice cream cones with Grandma Karen.

We headed upstairs to the sanctuary for our worship time.  We heard the story of Paul's conversion and how he met Jesus.

Our time outside was glorious!  It has been so fun to watch the way your children play with one another change over the past year.  They are all older and their play is too!  It is a pleasure to watch them change and grow.

Choo, Choo....

We are moving ahead with trains this week!  We will be doing lots of building this week as we construct unique trains, build tracks and become trains ourselves!  The T/Th class will be working on their big woodworking project of the year, the M/W/F class made bat houses in the fall.  We will also be working on our closing program!

We will be hearing the story of Paul’s conversion during worship this week.  These last three weeks will include singing some of our favorite songs and playing with the stories from this past year.

Many thanks to all those who came along on the field trip last Friday.  A BIG THANKS to Alan and Lori Bobo for showing us all around the airplanes and teaching us about them.

May 22 is our ER Field Trip.  This is a Tuesday.  If your child attends M/W/F he/she is welcome to join us as long as a parent or adult joins them.  I need to know ahead of time that you will be attending.

We have a lot of May birthdays!  If you would like to bring treats for your child’s May or summer birthday, please let me know ASAP and we can get this on the calendar. Our time is short and we don’t want to miss anything!

Field Trip!

Many thanks to everyone who prayed for a morning without rain!  We got it!  The trip out to see the airplane was so much fun.  We were able to see planes that were being worked on, we got to climb into a plane, put on the head gear, see the floats that go on the airplane and we even watched the wheels on the floats being brought up like they are before landing on the water!

We had a picnic snack inside the same hanger in which the planes were being fixed.  Many thanks to all the parents who came along today and especially to Alan and Lori for showing us all about small airplanes!

Field Trip Tomorrow

Tomorrow is our field trip to see the airplane!  We are very excited.  It would be a good idea to bring umbrellas as this will be outside.  We do have some cover in the hanger, but we will be walking to it.  If anyone has an extra picnic blanket or two, we need a few for spreading on the ground for our snack time.  We will be leaving at 9:15am sharp.  PLEASE BE ON TIME.  WE NEED ALL PRESCHOOLERS TO USE THE RESTROOM BEFORE WE LEAVE... THIS IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT!!!

More Airplanes!

We had another great morning making paper airplanes, testing different styles and having test flights at the Concordia International Airport!  We also are enjoying 4 new visitors, Praying Mantis Hatchlings!  These were very fun to observe.  We also read about the Praying Mantis and why it has the name it does.  Your preschooler can tell you!

We enjoyed Chapel with Pastor Dudley and Art with Miss Holly.  We also had some delicious cookies to celebrate a birthday!

Paper Airplanes

We made paper airplanes today!  We tested all kinds of different things to see how the planes would fly.  We added weights in different places, tried different folds of the paper, and used some tape here and there.  We took them to the airport (the wooden floor) to test them and their flight ability.  This was LOADS OF FUN!

Our secret project is just about finished.  The kids have been really good about keeping this project under wraps!

At Worship we learned a new song, John 15:5.  We learned that Jesus is always with us, even though we can't see Him.  He gives us strength each day!

Friday is our field trip.  We will be loaded and on the road at 9:15am.  Please be on time so that we can get every child to the bathroom before we leave!

Busy Builders!

May Day!

We planted flowers in the front flower bed today!  It was a fun way to bring in the month of May.  We also did a lot of ramp building and testing throughout the morning.  Woodworking was also a big part of the morning.

Today was indeed a fabulous morning!  During centers time the kids were all about their work, playing in groups.  Some tested out ramps, others made shapes out of our big foam tangrams, some created wooden sculptures with random wood scraps and others had a big house full of all kinds of activity at the dollhouse.  It was a beautiful sight to behold!

Worship was wonderful as well.  Songs were sung with great zeal and the ascension story was read.  There was more than one question about the ascension... perhaps you could ask your preschooler about it!

We headed outside to end our morning.  It was a bit chilly, but we had fun.  Please still send jackets with your preschooler!
