Building Ramps

Today we built ramps!  We watched cars cruise down the ramps and saw how far they would go on different types of ramps.  Your preschooler might talk about an inclined plane as we used this term when building.  As predicted, this building project was a favorite today!

Worship was upstairs in the sanctuary.  We knelt at the altar rail as we looked at the cross covered in lilies and heard to ascension story.  Each of us took an opportunity to share a prayer if we wanted.

Music with Miss Marsha closed our morning.  We are gearing up for our field trip on Friday.  Please make sure your child's permission slip has been handed in!

Fun Times Ahead

These last few weeks of preschool are exciting times!  Pullman School District Kindergarten Registration is this week on Wednesday, and I know some of you parents are feeling anxious about it.  Please know you are in our prayers as your child transitions to Kindergarten.  We’ve done our best to help prepare them for such an exciting journey!

We are still in transportation mode!  We’ll be building ramps, making paper airplanes, having airplane races, woodworking, planting flowers, and practicing for our closing program this week.
We will be learning about the Ascension in our worship time together.

On Friday we will be taking a field trip to the Pullman Airport to see an airplane that belongs to one of our preschool families.  T/Th kids are welcome to come with a parent, but I MUST KNOW YOU ARE COMING BY THURSDAY, TUESDAY IS EVEN BETTER.  We will leave the preschool promptly at 9:15 and will be back by 11:00 for Art.

May 22 is our ER Trip and our Closing Program is on May 24 at 6:30pm.

Rain Won't Slow Us Down

It was POURING rain outside, but we hardly noticed in the classroom!  We were busy with all kinds of fun transportation stuff.  We named different types of land transportation and different types of water transportation... there are a lot of different types!

Centers time included cooking with Grandma Karen, woodworking with Ken and the opportunity to write transportation stories.  We also enjoyed playing with dinosaurs, sculpting with brown clay and painting yellow school buses.

We used our worship time to draw in our prayer journals.  I love to see the prayer pictures the children draw for Jesus.

For closing circle we enjoyed music!  We played the Glockenspiel, Rhythm Sticks and Blocks.

If you are planning on attending the field trip next Friday, please let me know on Tuesday.  T/Th kids must have an adult to come along with them.  Email me with any questions you might have!

Row, Row, Row...

We had a lot of silly fun singing a few transportation type songs and changing the lyrics!  This group of kids always finds this type of activity hilarious!  We sang "The Wheels on the Bus" and then chose other types of land transportation for the song.  Next we sang "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and then named different types of water transportation to sing in the songs.  FUN!!!

Centers time included more secret woodworking work, cooking with Grandma Karen making Raggedy Ann and Andy salads, serious Candyland gaming, sculpting with brown clay and all kinds of fun stuff in dramatic play.

During our worship time, we made a special gift for a special person... Marilyn, our secretary.  Happy Administrative Professionals Day!  We each drew a picture of a flower and put the pictures together in a book entitled "Flowers For Marilyn."

We are slowly getting ready for our Closing Program and Graduation.  We are learning about performance hands, smiles and voices.  We'll be ready when the time comes!

Our Airport field trip is next week on Friday May 4.

Car Painting

A favorite activity of the day was painting with cars, trucks and planes!  The different types of transportation drove through paint and then made tracks on paper to create some fantastic artwork.  Super fun!  We also had fun with domino bowling, puppet making, woodworking and moon sand in the sensory table.

During worship the children each retold the Bible story of the Road to Emmaus.  We also sang and prayed together.

We enjoyed some time outside with lots and lots of running!

Types of Transportation

We are going to have a lot of fun with our TRANSPORTATION unit!  We made a very long list of different things that help us get from one place to another.  There were some wonderful modes of transportation on our list!  Next, we grouped the items on our list into groups of types of transportation on the ground, in the air and on the water.  We were excited to learn that some airplanes also can be on the water!

Our field trip next week will be on FRIDAY, MAY 4.  Be watching for a permission slip and please let me know if you would like to come along and drive!

We worked on a top secret woodworking project today.  You'll find out soon enough what we are working on.  We also spent a wonderful amount of time outside.  We ended the day with Music!

Moving Right Along!

Is this really the last full week in April????  We are going to get right to it with all kinds of transportation!  We will be focusing on different types of transportation in the next two weeks.  Next week, either Wednesday or Friday, we will take a field trip out to the airport to see an airplane that belongs to one of our preschool families!  No, we won’t go for a ride, but we will climb inside!  Look for some creative artwork this week using different items for the creative process.  We will enjoy the beautiful learning opportunities given us in this fabulous warm weather too.

Worship will involve prayer journal time, working with our past stories and singing songs that help us memorize scripture.

Mark your calendar for a few important upcoming events.  On Tuesday May 22 we will be taking a field trip to the Pullman ER.  If your child does not attend preschool on the day of the field trip, he or she is welcome to attend as long as a parent or another adult is along with them for the field trip.  I need to know at least one day in advance if you and your child will be attending the field trip that is scheduled for a day that your child does not usually attend.    This is just about as clear as muddy water, so please ask me questions!  This applies to the upcoming airplane trip too.  May 24 is our Graduation and Closing Program.  You won’t want to miss it!

SHARE day is always a favorite!  We will be sneaking in 2 more SHARE days before the end of the school year... the kids just LOVE it!  It is a delight to hear the preschoolers talk about what they brought.

Centers included writing butterfly stories, watercolor painting, reading, sharing and playing with SHARE items and making cards and writing letters!  Then we headed outside to enjoy the glorious sunshine and have some wonderful creative outside play.

Chapel with Pastor Dudley told the story of the Road to Emmaus and Jesus calling out to the disciples in the boat fishing.  Ask your preschooler was Peter did!

We finished the morning learning how to make different clay animals with Miss Holly.  It was a spectacular day at preschool!

Reading Campground

We are starting to plan our closing program and today the preschoolers helped make a list of some of our favorite songs that we might sing at the super fun event.  Our newest worship song is a favorite.  In fact, several times today groups of preschoolers broke out singing, "May my prayer be set before you like incense..."  Our hearts sang!

Stamping, beading, butterfly memory and the reading camp ground were all part of our day.  We set up tents in the circle area and it became a reading camp ground!  The tents have become a very popular place to take a favorite book!

Prayer Journals came out at our worship time and we drew our prayers to Jesus.  We also learned another worship song.  Ask your preschooler about being hid in the shadow of God's wings!

Thursday and Friday are SHARE Days!

Lambs and Butterflies

We finished our science journals today with a picture of our adult butterfly!  It is a pleasure to look through the scientific drawings your children have drawn in their journals.  We also remembered our field trip to see the lambs and learned how wool is made into yarn.

Centers time was wonderful with busy children playing, woodworking, drawing, creating birds for the mural's sky and retelling the Easter story with stickers.

Worship told the story of the Road to Emmaus.

We spent the last part of our morning in the glorious sunshine outside!

Don't forget that Thursday is SHARE Day.

Miss Fannie's Hat

We read a few wonderful books today.  One was "Miss Fannie's Hat."  This is a wonderful story about giving.  Ask your preschooler to tell you about this book and the pink straw hat with roses!

We enjoyed learning about wool from sheep.  A man named Farmer Brown helped us find out how wool yarn is made!  This was another fun book today.

The story of the Road to Emmaus was part of our worship time.  The wooden Godly Play people helped us see the story and are there for the preschoolers to use to retell the story themselves.  We also learned a new song about prayer... Psalm 141:2.

Music with Miss Marsha was lots of fun as we played a drum from Guatemala, became seashells on the shore and sang a silly slippery fish song!

Coming Up This Week

SHARE Days are this week!  Mark your calendar to help your child remember to bring something for SHARE Day on Thursday and Friday this week.  We will also be doing some follow up from our field trip to the farm and making some fun lamb art!  We are also going to slowly start getting ready for our closing program… it will be here before we know it!

Worship will be the story of the Road to Emmaus. We will see the story with our Godly Play characters and have some time in our prayer journals too.

Before the end of the year, we will have a few more field trips.  One will be held on a M,W or F and will be out to the airport to see an airplane up close.  The next will be held on Tuesday May 22 and will be a trip to the Pullman ER.

Many blessings to you this week!

Beautiful Lambs

We had a fabulous field trip to see the lambs this morning.  Many thanks to all the parents who helped out with both this trip and the one yesterday!  We had a wonderful time in the spring sunshine.  Pictures to follow soon!

It was a beautiful day for a field trip!  We weren't able to hold the lambs, but we got a close look at them and carried hay out in the pasture for them.  It was fun to listen to the sheep and watch them stare at us!  The youngest lamb was born last Saturday.  It was so nice that we were able to have a picnic style snack on the grass.  It really was a beautiful day!

New Life

We spent some time today taking a close look at the new life we see in our butterflies!  We drew what remained of the chrysalis (comparing it to the empty tomb) and then added pictures of the butterflies to our science journals.  These children can draw some pretty amazing pictures!

During centers time we wrote stories about being butterflies, we did some beading, sorting in the sensory table, letter writing in shaving cream and I saw some pretty amazing plumbing work taking place in the play kitchen sink!

Chapel with Pastor Dudley was today and we spent some great time outside!

Tomorrow and Friday are our field trips to see the lambs at Mrs. Barrington's house.  Please remember that this is a messy, dirty field trip.  It is an outdoor trip too, so dress accordingly!

Monday, April 9, 2012

Welcome Spring!  It was such a beautiful morning, that we moved out centers time outside!  We took magnifying lenses, measuring tapes, tweezers, tongs, marker and paper as out outside tools.  We searched for new life, investigated the outdoors, played in the sunshine and had a glorious time!  When we let to go outside, we had one butterfly and one chrysalis.  When we came back inside, we had two butterflies!  Wonderful!

For worship, we read the Easter story and made beautiful crosses adorned with jewels.  We learned how Jesus made the cross beautiful!

Our field trip is set for Thursday and Friday.  It will most likely be muddy.  NO DRESS SHOES, DRESSES OR TIGHTS ALLOWED.  Please send your child in clothes and shoes that can get super dirty.  If you can come along and drive, please let me know along with how many extra children you can fit in your vehicle.  Thanks!
