Coming Up

First of all, a HUGE thank you to all who helped out and came to the Art Show and Silent Auction!  We made around $1500 for the preschool!!!  Many, many, many thanks!

I am home sick with some type of flu and have been sleeping most of the day, so here is the short of it!  We'll be working with pizzas in our last week on restaurants.  Maybe you could make a homemade pizza at home this week with your preschooler!  Worship time will be with our Lenten devotional like the one that went home.

Make sure to sign up for a conference time!  Conferences are next week and preschool will not be in session.  The sign up sheet is by the sign in/out binder.

Concordia Lutheran Church has Lenten soup suppers and worship each Wednesday night during Lent.  You are invited to come with your family!  This week will be Chicken Noodle soup, with dinner at 6pm and worship at 7pm.

Getting Ready!

We were getting ready for the Art Show today!  Self Portraits were drawn, and apron was made and artwork was named.  I really enjoyed hearing the names that your children chose for each piece of artwork they had!

Chapel with Pastor Dudley was an all time favorite.  Ask your preschooler about it and what temptation is all about.   We also received the sign of the cross on our forehead in ashes to remember Ash Wednesday.

Enjoy your windy afternoon!

Self Portraits

Today we took a close look at ourselves in the mirror and drew our very own self portraits!  These will be framed and on display at the Art Show.  Impressive work!

We also did some work with Oodles on Noodles.  We laced noodles, turned noodles into worms at the end of a fishing line, went fishing with our bait and counted seashell noodles and picked them up with tongs.  Love those noodles!

Worship time included prayers and introducing our Jerusalem scene for the season of Lent.  One of these scenes was also sent home with you to enjoy at home with your family.  It is a lot like our Advent sticker devotions.  I hope you are able to use it at home.

A Fun Week Ahead!

This is going to be a very fun week as we prepare for the upcoming Art Show and Silent Auction that will be held on Friday night 6-7:30pm.  The preschoolers will be naming each piece of their art, creating self-portraits and making a class item for the silent auction!  We will also be having some fun with Oodles of Noodles.

Our worship time will focus on prayer.  This week marks the beginning of the season of the church year that is Lent.  Ash Wednesday service will be held on Wednesday at 7pm here at Concordia Lutheran Church if you would like to join us that evening.

Many thanks for coming to The Heart café last week.  We had a great time and hope you did too!

As stated before, this Friday is our Art Show and Silent Auction.  I can use volunteers all week long to help finish up framing the art and getting each piece of artwork named.  If you have a few extra minutes, let me know!  Also, we still need a few volunteers for the mornings of Thursday and Friday to get everything set up for the big event.

Please plan on attending this fun event with your preschooler.  Invite friends and family to come along too!  This is a fun opportunity to dress up for the evening!  All money raised goes directly to the preschool to help enrich and enhance our program.

Conference Sign Ups are out.  Please sign up for a conference time.  Just a reminder that preschool will not be in session the week of conferences.

Happy Valentine's Day!

The last two days have been a tremendous amount of fun!  Thanks to everyone who came to The Heart Cafe and special thanks to our kitchen workers Ken, Karen, Trish and Pastor Dudley... they did a wonderful job!

We celebrated Valentine's in several other ways as well.  We graphed boxes of conversation hearts to find out how many of each color were in our own box.  We sorted them into colors first and then glued them onto our graph.  Fun, fun, fun!  We also made Valentine headbands and went on a search upstairs in the sanctuary for our Valentine's for Jesus!

The Art Show and Silent Auction are coming up next week!  We still need some volunteer help for set up next Thursday and Friday if you are able to help us out.  We could use a few more auction items too.  We are really excited for this fun event, so please plan on attending.  Invite your family and friends too!

The Heart Cafe

We look forward to starting our week out by serving you at "The Heart Cafe!"  When you come to preschool on Monday and Tuesday, you will be coming to our lovely restaurant for a delicious, full breakfast!  You will be asked to wait to be seated and one of our lovely waitresses, Scarlet and Blush, will seat you.  Menus will be given and orders taken.  While you wait for your hot breakfast, you can step over to the Valentine Station to help your preschooler deliver his/her Valentines!  We hope you enjoy a pleasant breakfast at The Heart Cafe!  After breakfast, preschool will continue with some fun Valentine activities.

The rest of the week will continue our journey into the world of restaurants.  Our worship time will include a parable about a big feast!  More Bible memory songs are on their way this week too.

Reminder... no preschool on Monday, February 20.  Next week I will put out sign up sheets for conference times.  Conferences are March 5-9.  Preschool will not be in session this week, but you can bring your preschooler during your conference time to have one-on-one time with Mrs. Barrington.  Conferences are 20 minutes long.  I will do my best to keep on schedule!

We are busy with preparations for our youthful Expressions Art Show and Silent Auction!  This is an opportunity to get fancy and come for an evening of art, food and fun.  We are in BIG need of silent auction items.  These can be just about anything... hand made items, gift baskets, baked goods, toys, children's items....  Please consider donating an item for our auction.  All proceeds go directly to the preschool.  A free will donation basket will be available at the door as well.  Invite your family and friends!  It is sure to be a fabulous evening.

Watercolor Hearts

I'll start with the end of our morning... we had Art with Miss Holly and made some beautiful heart watercolors. These will be part of our art show!  They are quite impressive.

Today we finished up our Valentine mailboxes for use next week.  We also did some dot painting, play dough sculpting, peg board pegging and sensory table sifting.

Our worship time was full of singing and working with our Godly Play stories.  It is delightful to watch the preschoolers work with each story!

Don't forget The Heart Cafe next week!  We are looking forward to this super fun event!  Also, we still have room on the sign up sheets for volunteer help for the Art Show and Silent Auction.  We also could use a few more silent auction items if you know of anyone or anyplace that might be willing to donate something for our benefit.

We read our silly poem "Yellow Butter" again today, but added a fun twist.  This poem has four different colors in it, so each preschooler got a paper of one of the colors.  We had to listened very close and lift up the right color when it was said in the poem.  The tricky part is that the poems gets faster and faster!  Lots of fun and laughs as we listened closely for our parts!

We made our Valentine's mailboxes today and practice Valentine patterns.  Class lists went out in your mailbox today.

We also enjoyed chapel with Pastor Dudley and celebrated a birthday!  We also enjoyed some larger motor time outside!

We are looking forward to breakfast at "The Heart Cafe!"  Thanks you for making your reservations.  It is sure to be a fabulous time!

In the flyer that went home for the upcoming Art Show and Silent Auction, it said something about purchasing tickets.  There are no tickets this year, so please disregard the ticket information!  Sorry about the confusion.

Making Hearts

It was a heart filled day as we made special hart shaped mailboxes that will be used at our Valentine's Day celebrations!   I did notice that I neglected to put the class lists in your mailboxes, so they will be there on Thursday.  I'm very sorry for missing that!  We also cut out paper hearts to decorate our classroom.

Worship included a new song for the letter "E".  Ask your preschooler if they remember the words.

We spent some time outside enjoying the cool fresh air on the hillside.  It was a very nice ending to our preschool morning.

Monday, February 6, 2012

Today the talk was all about sandwiches.  We made a list of things that can be used to make a sandwich, we each made our own pretend sandwich and learned a poem called "Yellow Butter."

Over the weekend, the snowflakes came down and are now replaced with handmade hearts!  Folding, cutting, creating and decorating were all part of this fun activity.  We also had some fun at the restaurant and working on some new number puzzles.

Worship time was an opportunity to play with the stories we have heard so far.  This is a favorite!  The kids love telling the stories and moving the pieces around, pure joy to watch!

FYI... there is some type of bug going around Pullman.  4 preschoolers were out today and my daughter was sent home early from school.  Keep up that hand washing and thanks for keeping you under-the-weather preschooler at home!

Coming Up This Week

This week will be a fun mix of restaurant, sandwiches and love!  We’ll be looking at the letters Q and R, doing some number puzzles, reading a crazy book about Warthogs in a kitchen, using our cutting skills while making hearts and a whole lot more.  We will also be making some special mailboxes to be used a preschool next week.  Class lists are also in your mailbox today if you would like to have your preschooler bring Valentine’s for their preschool friends.  We will be exchanging these on Monday and Tuesday.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we will be hearing about love during our worship time.

Don’t forget to RSVP for The Heart Café!
The M/W/F class is invited to The Heart Café on Monday morning, the 13th.  The T/Th class is invited on Tuesday the 14th.  This will be from 9-10am and family is invited!  If you are unable to attend the breakfast with your preschooler, please let me know as we have a few volunteers who would be happy to have breakfast with your preschooler!  This is a FULL BREKAFAST and we will be your servers.  It will be just like going out to breakfast at a restaurant and we will be playing the parts!  We are very excited to serve you at The Heart Café!

We are still gearing up for our Art Show and Silent Auction Fundraiser to be held on February 24, 6:00pm-7:30pm.  Invite your family and friends!   We are collecting all kinds of items for our Silent Auction!  All monies raised from this event go directly to the preschool!  Sign-up sheet for volunteers and items to donate are out this week, so take a peek and see how you could help out! FYI… this is a fancy event if you want to dress up.  Dressy attire is not required, but it sure is fun!

Friday Already?

This week went by so quickly... it doesn't seem like it should be Friday yet!  SHARE circle was lots of fun with all kinds of wonderful items.  Everyone did such a great job talking about what they brought.  Mrs. Krantz even had something to share!

Art with Miss Holly was awesome as we made our own blue hearts, much like the one on campus... only smaller!  These will be displayed at the upcoming Art Show and Silent Auction.

We are very excited for our annual fundraiser.  It is a wonderful evening.  The kids love seeing their work displayed.  Delicious desserts and finger foods are served and bidding on the silent auction items is always fun! We are still looking for silent auction donations.  Gift baskets, toys, home decor, gift certificates, tools, sports stuff and books are just a few ideas for auction items.  Please plan on attending with your family and invite your friends!

Share Day and Soup

SHARE Day is by far one of the kid's favorite days!  They love to bring in their stuff and talk about it.  It is fun to hear what they have to say about whatever item they brought.  We have seen confidence grow over the past few months as they become more comfortable talking in front of their peers!

During our centers time we worked on matching, sequencing and sorting with a new Valentines game.  New games always draw a lot of attention!  We also made place mats with ABC stamps and played with our SHARE items.

IT was busy today as we got to make Chicken Noodle Soup with Grandma Karen, have chapel with Pastor Dudley and make blue hearts at Art with Miss Holly!

Have a wonderful weekend.  Don't forget to invite family and friends to the upcoming Art Show and Silent Auction.  We are also collecting items for the silent auction if you would like to donate something.  Look for volunteer sign up sheets next week!

Yummy Chicken Noodle Soup

The preschool smelled so good today as we cooked up a pot of chicken noodle soup.  Yes, we ate it at our feast time.  Opening circle was super fun as we sang our chicken soup song, but substituted the word "chicken" with actions or other words.  The preschoolers laughed and laughed at our silly song!  We also did a lot of rhyming today, another activity full of giggles and happy learning.  It was kind of a giggly sort of day.  We like those!

Today was also a BIG day... we rode the elevator!!! It is up and running.  This was a huge highlight of our day!

SHARE DAY is Thursday and Friday.  Don't forget!
