Down on the Farm

The kids took right to our new unit on the Farm! We learned a song about a farmer's work and picked out movements and action for all the different things a farmer does. We also talked about farms we had been to before.

During centers time you could find a rooster making cards at the writing table, a herd of pigs being fed by the farmer, wash being put out on the line to dry, farm collages being made from "County" and "Birds and Blooms" magazines, and a tiger even made himself comfortable on the farm!

The Jesus Time story captivated the preschoolers as we heard the story of the loving father who welcomes his son back home with open and loving arms! We learned our verse about forgiveness with a few funny voices to help us remember!

Music with Miss Marsha included a snake dance, dancing down a river and back, playing the temple blocks, glockenspiel, tone bars and harp. We sang a song about the north wind bringing snow... very appropriate for us today!

Reminders

Please remember to bring outdoor attire for your children each day!

When parking in the parking lot, please be sure to pull up completely in your spot. The parking lot can get a little crowded and we want to make sure it is a safe place for everyone. Thanks!

SHARE DAY IS THIS WEEK!!!

Spring???

We are hopeful for spring’s arrival and will be starting our unit on the farm! We will be learning all about the work of a farmer, doing some counting, sorting and graphing, hanging clothes on the line, making farm collages and more. Letters and numbers will be a big part of our week too!

Jesus Time is about the story of the Loving Father, also known as the Prodigal Son. Our verse of the week is, “Forgive each other.” Colossians 3:13. One our favorite ways to learn the verse of the week is to repeat it in all kinds of funny voices! We will practice showing God’s love to our friends and family by showing forgiveness.

I want to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all of you who helped with the Youthful Expressions Art Show and Silent Auction. We made over $1200 for the preschool! The children were so excited and proud to show off their amazing artwork and I think everyone had an enjoyable evening. Thanks to everyone who helped in a variety of ways to make this event such a huge success!

With the snow, please remember snow gear for outside times. We would like to make it outside for some snow fun!

A Busy Day

We started off our morning with the sharing of three family posters. Again, I love seeing your children talk about their families and explain their pictures. they show such pride and excitement! Thank you for taking the time to make these at home!

Centers was busy with all kinds of things. We made our apron for the silent auction, the preschoolers named their art pieces that are for the art show, we worked with scissors, took care of sheep, made sheep faces and all kinds of other fun play!

During Jesus Time we learned about the good shepherd taking care of the sheep and that Jesus is our good shepherd. We sang our "Be Kind" song and prayed together.

We also got busy making some fun circle prints, some will be displayed at the art show. Ask your preschooler if they used a volcano to make theirs. They will know what you mean!

A Very Snowy Day

Mrs. Barrington was out today and Miss Holly was with us for the morning. The kids LOVE Miss Holly and enjoyed extra time with her today. We watched the snow fall and keep falling all morning long! It is very white in Pullman today!

During centers time we practiced our scissor skills, made sheep puppets (that go along with our Bible story), did some stamping, made sheepfolds for Cotton ball sheep in building and so much more! It was a wonderful time.

Jesus Time told us about the story of the good shepherd. One preschooler said it quite well, "Jesus loves us very much and holds us in His arms." That is exactly right!

At the end of the day we did some funny movement to music and worked on our contribution to the silent auction... a hand print apron that has all of the preschooler's hand prints on it! It looks FABULOUS!

My computer is not printing at the moment, so newsletters were not put in boxes. Hopefully the problem will be fixed tomorrow! If you signed up to bring food items, please bring them Thursday morning or before. Thanks!!!

The Good Shepherd

This week we will finish up the sharing of our posters made at home. If you haven’t brought yours in, please do so this week. The children are really enjoying sharing their posters and having them displayed in the classroom! We will also be creating stories of children we see if pictures. As a class, we will write a story together. We will also be doing a few things to get ready for our big art show on Friday night!

Jesus Time is about the story of The Good Shepherd. Our verse is “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19. We will be making some fun sheepish projects and adding sheep to different areas of our classroom so that we can all play the role of the good shepherd!

The art show and silent auction is Friday! I have a list of food items that can be donated if you would like to do so. Please check the item off the list if you plan to donate it. You should all have your tickets, if not let me know. Tickets are still available to sell, so if you know of anyone who would like to attend, please sell them a ticket. $10 is a suggested donation but we will not turn anyone away who wants to enjoy an evening of Youthful Expressions!

Can We Borrow...

We need to borrow a few things this week for the Youthful Expressions Art Show and Silent Auction. We need the following…
~ Muffin tins
~ Christmas wreath hangers, the type that hook over the top of a door.
If you have any of these and would let us use them , please label your items so we can get them back to you! Thanks!

Sharing Posters

Today about half of our class had the opportunity to share about his/her family poster. Each one was so proud and excited to explain the different pictures and words on their particular poster. What a fun way to share their special family and home life with their friends at preschool! They each chose a spot in the classroom to display their very own poster.

Centers time was busy with making mirrors to show us how special we each are, creating spool paintings, making ABC stickers pictures, created a collage of people from all over the world who are created in a special way, and playing a color dinosaur game with our parent volunteer.

We read the book "Ferdinand" today. This book grabbed the attention of our kiddos and they had so much fun guessing and hypothesizing about what would happen to our friendly bull. Ask your child what happened. This is another excellent book to have in your home collection!

During Jesus Time we used block and people from our doll house supplies to build a 3D representation of the story of the Good Samaritan. Each preschooler took a turn adding components to our story. We could have continued this for quite a long time I think. They found a lot of joy in recreating the Bible story that teaches us to be kind and love on another.

The youthful Expressions Art Show and Silent Auction is a week from tomorrow! We are busy getting the art displays together. If you have extra time next week during preschool hours and would like to help prepare some of the art, we would be happy to take your time! Just let me know!

We are Special

Today we began sharing our family posters! It is so fun to see the children share what is on their posters and explain their family and the other things that make them special. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these posters at home with your preschooler. We will continue to share them over the next few days, so please bring yours in if you haven't already done so.

We made mirrors today our of old CD's, decorated them and put the words "_____ is special!" We also painted with old thread spools, worked on some letter writing and had all kinds of imaginative fun in building and dramatic play.

Chapel was today and Pastor Dudley talked about loving our neighbors. Ask your preschooler about it. We sang a lot of songs and spent some time praying too.

We also took an opportunity to make a drawing with a purple crayons just like Harold did in, "Harold and the Purple Crayon." This is a fantastic book which I highly recommend to have in your home library!

Celebrating

Everyday is a good day to celebrate love... even the day after Valentine's Day! We had our T/Th celebration today with heart charts, shimmery paintings, digging in rose petals, headband making and even a few puppet shows!

We enjoyed a wonderful book, "Harold and the Purple Crayon." This book captured the attention of every preschooler! They listened with great anticipation and excitement. They loved finding out what Harold would draw next in his purple crayon world.

We hunted for Valentine's for Jesus, made special gifts for home and decorated treats to eat. The day was fabulous and we enjoyed peeking at the massive amounts of big, wet snowflakes falling to the ground outside the windows! What a beautiful day to celebrate love, life, and snow!

Remember to bring your family posters ASAP. We will start sharing them on Wednesday and Thursday.

Next week is the Youth Expressions Art Show and Silent Auction. We are still looking for silent auction items and more people to attend! There is also a list of food items we need to make our scrumptious desserts.

All About Love!

We had a fabulous Valentine's Day in preschool. We celebrated love all morning long! We began by taking a box of conversation hearts and turning them into our very own 3D graph! We graphed them according to color. Light pink was the color that was most plentiful in the box. Preschoolers has the opportunity to graph their very own box as well. We made Valentine headbands, delivered Valentines to one another and had some fantastic puppet shows!

During Jesus Time we heard the story of the Good Samaritan and how he showed love and kindness to the man who had been hurt. We spent some time playing outside, enjoying the wonderful weather and fresh air.

We came inside and went on a hunt for Valentine's from Jesus! They were hiding upstairs in the sanctuary. Each preschooler found their two Valentine's from Jesus... they had so much fun searching for their special gifts! We headed back down to make Valentine's for parents and eat our frosted graham crackers with gummy bear decorations! It was a wonderful day!

We will begin sharing our family posters on Wednesday, so bring yours in ASAP!

Argh...

Our classroom spontaneously turned into a pirate cove today. Treasure could be found, spy glasses were made, look out towers were built and "Ahoy" was heard throughout the classroom! Such creative preschoolers! Memory games were popular this morning as well as Valentine making. We tried our hand at heart rubbings with paper over cut out hearts and chalk for the rubbings. Beautiful pastel hearts appeared!

Jesus Time was about kindness and forgiveness. Ask your child about the "Be Kind" song. I would guess they could sing it for you.

Music with Miss Marsha included birds, instruments and ladies and gentlemen who like silver, gold and ice cream cones!

Special Hearts

Today started out in a very loving and special way. Each preschooler was given a heart, each heart unique and special in it's own way. Each child told the group what made their heart special and we wrote this down on a big paper. While all the hearts were the same in that they were hearts, they were all different in shape, color, pattern, and decorations. Then we realized that we are like those hearts. We are all special people, created in our own special way. God has given us each traits that make us special. The preschoolers LOVED this!

Centers was full of creativity with making decorations for Valentine's Day. Cards were also made a sent of at out post office. Purple paint was made using red and blue paint, and we sorted through rose petals to find happy Valentine's Bears and fun letters. They were camouflaged!

We had our warm fuzzy party with cookies and playing a game called 4 Corners, a new favorite in our classroom!

Music with Miss Marsha taught us about a solo, a duet and a trio. We used birds and instruments to practice all three!

Book orders are due on Wednesday, so get yours in if you have an order to place! Class lists went out for Valentine's for the classroom. We will be exchanging them on the 14th, next Monday!

God Made Us Special!

This week we will be learning how each one of is special and how God made us unique! We will be using hearts to look at similarities and differences and we will read some great books about how special God made us. Jesus Time is about the story of the Forgiving King. We will learn about forgiveness and look for ways to forgive one another when mistakes happen and think of different ways to show kindness. Our verse of the week is “Be kind to everyone.” 2 Timothy 2:24

Substitute on Thursday

Mrs. Barrington and Mrs. Eld will be in the classroom on Thursday. My youngest is running a fever and has classic signs of an ear infection. So I will spend my morning with him, hopefully getting his ears checked. Mrs. Eld is familiar with the preschoolers and they with her. She is my babysitter for my son and steps in the classroom when I step out to nurse. She is wonderful with the kids and they really enjoy her. Remember, Thursday is SHARE day too!

Big and Small

Today we spent some type comparing the size of different shells. We read the book, "I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean" and then did our comparisons. The book is a great book about a giant squid who thinks he is the biggest thing in the ocean. He soon finds out that he isn't. Ask your preschooler what happens!

Centers time was busy with necklace making, measuring shells, playing lots of different games, sorting fish with tongs and putting number puzzles together.

Chapel time with Pastor Dudley was especially fun today. Pastor talked about the light of Jesus shining in us and used some funny candles to illustrate what he was telling us. We did a lot of laughing as we tried to blow candles out that just wouldn't go out. Your preschooler can tell you all about it!

With this frigid weather, we had inside recess time with some tumbling, basketball, balancing stones and tunnels.

Great news! Our class filled their warm fuzzy jar today and we will be party planning on Friday! They are very excited!

Warm Fuzzies

Today we celebrated filling our jar of warm fuzzies! Each time a wonderful thing happens in the classroom (sharing, super listening, walking in line, helping a friend...) a warm fuzzy goes into a jar. When the jar is full, we get a party! We filled the jar last week, so we celebrated today by playing 4 Corners and decorating cookies. We had a fabulous time!

We also listened to our poem "Fishes Evening Song" and talked about how we thought it might sound if fish really sang. There were some pretty amazing fish songs coming out of the preschool mouths! Creative kids! We learned that whales sing to talk to one another. What an amazing and creative God we have that He would create animals to communicate is such neat and curious ways! We journaled about sea creatures, created our own unique sea creatures, and made cereal necklaces with fruity cheerios.

Jesus Time was about the feeding of the 5,000. We looked at several different pictures of the story and then heard the story. It was an amazing event, a wonderful miracle. God give us more than we need!
