Conferences and Rummage Sale

Parent Teacher Conferences are this week! THERE WILL BE NO PRESCHOOL ON CONFERENCE DAYS (APRIL 28-30) but Mrs. Barrington will be in the classroom to have one-on-one time with your preschooler during your conference if you wish.

Our annual Rummage Sale is set for May 22. We need your help in several areas. We will need people to help sort the items and set up on May 20 and 21. We will need people to help run the sale on the 22 and people to hall off the leftovers after the sale is done. I'm also looking for someone to take over the publicity for the event. All money made goes directly to enhancing the preschool! Please let me know how you are able to help. We also need your stuff that you are looking to find a new home for. We will not be taking donations until the the week before the sale, so hold on to your stuff for just a little bit longer!

A Short Week

We have a short week, but it won't be short of fun and learning! The preschoolers will be picking out some of their favorite songs and poems we have been learning in these past few weeks. We'll be counting, rhyming, discovering patterns and more in these two days.

Handwriting time will be working with our wood pieces to forms letters with big and small curves.

During Jesus Time we will be learning more about Paul and his love for the Lord. We won't have chapel since it is a short week.

I am looking forward to conferences with each of you!

Police Officers!

Today we had a visit from a few of our preschool Dads! Evan's Dad, Tyler's Dad and Gracie's Dad all came into. Tyler and Evan's Dads are police officers and Gracie's Dad is the Chaplain for the Pullman Police Department! We learned all about what they do, passed around the heavy handcuffs, climbed in the car, saw the flashing lights and even heard the loud sirens! It was great for the preschoolers to see that police officers are very friendly and not someone to be afraid of. Each preschooler was given a junior Police Officer sticker badge! Pretty fun.

After out visitors left, we went to work building with cups, working with the play-do, stamping abc's, writing with chalk and lots more. Jesus Time was a ll about singing and praying. We also danced as we sang. There are so many ways to praise our Lord!

Since the rain was POURING down, we did some parachute play inside. Ask your preschooler what their favorite part of playing with the parachute was!

Tuesday's Happenings

We had a fun and energy filled morning as we learned about 911, made firefighter helmets, painted fire trucks and pretended to be all kinds of animals! We also had a fire drill today. We sang songs of praise as we heard about Paul singing in jail during Jesus time. The weather was fantastic and we spent time running up and down the hill, digging in the sand and gravel and absorbing all the sunshine we could!

Music with Miss Marsha was great as always. The preschoolers LOVED the snake dance. Ask them about it!

THERE WILL BE NO PRESCHOOL ON CONFERENCE DAYS (APRIL 28-30) but Mrs. Barrington will be in the classroom to have one-on-one time with your preschooler during your conference if you wish.

Emergency

911 is the number of the week! We will be doing more work with emergencies and we have a police officer visit planned for Thursday. We will also learn more about the firehouse and firefighters as we read books, learn poems and sing songs. We will make our own firetrucks and firefighter helmets. We also have a special treat this week! On Wednesday we will have a Banjo player from the congregation come in and play for us! We'll make our own instruments to play along with him!

"Sing to God; tell of His wonderful acts." Psalm 105:2 This is our verse for the week. We will learn about Paul singing is jail and just what happened!

Fire Truck!

What an exciting morning we had at preschool! It started off with SHARE day where the preschoolers shared all about their items from home. Then, the FIRE TRUCK and FIRE FIGHTERS came! Olivia's Daddy, Jay, and a few of his fire fighting colleagues came to the preschool to show us the truck and tell us all about being a fire fighter. The kids had some great questions and shared some of their knowledge about fire fighting! It was a beautiful day to be outside admiring the fire truck!

We had a great time at chapel with Pastor Dudley. The preschoolers really enjoyed snack time today and had some wonderful conversations at the snack table. After snack we headed back outside for playground time. A bunny was hiding up in the trees so Mrs. Krantz tried to herd it down the hill so the preschoolers could see, but no luck. It was funny to see Mrs. Krantz try to herd a single bunny.

Enjoy this amazing weather!

Wiggly Worms

We took full advantage of a teachable moment today. Worms were everywhere from the wonderful rain! We brought worms into the classroom to observe. We held them, watched them squirm around and enjoyed lots of squealing. We talked about how worms are good for the soil and what castings are. The rain let up and we went on a worm hunt in the grass. We didn't find any more worms, but we did find lots of worm holes in the ground! What a fun and unexpected learning experience!

Rescue Stories

Firefighters do so much more than fight fires. Today we learned a little more about what firefighters do. The preschoolers wrote their own story about a rescue they would take part in if they were a firefighter! They illustrated the stories too. Amazing stories and pictures emerged! I'll try to hang them up on the doors outside of the preschool in the next day or two.

Major writing took place at the writing table, as letters were stuff into envelopes and made ready to be sent out. We painted with red and yellow to make fire pictures and create the color orange. In the building center, firehouses were built around a neighborhood and firefighters went to work saving cats, cows, cars, and people. Firetruck made their way through the neighborhood to put our fires and save the day!

We've had a lot of questions about heaven during Jesus Time. Take a few minutes to talk with your preschooler about heaven. An easy way to start this faith building conversation could be, "What do you think heaven looks like?" You can gain incredible insight into your child and find wonderful faith building moments during such conversations. Maybe you could each draw a picture of heaven and then share it with each other.

The Week Ahead

We'll be working with rhymes and rhythms this week as we continue to learn about the FIREHOUSE. The preschoolers will have the chance to write their own rescue story and to illustrate it. We'll be creating firetrucks, telephones and smoke detectors. We will also start talking about dialing 911 and what an emergency is. On Thursday a firetruck will be visiting, as long as it isn't called away on an emergency! Thursday is also SHARE day!

Handwriting will focus on the letters F and B.

"Go and tell the Good News!" Mark 16:15 is our verse for the week. We will learn about Paul sharing the good news of Jesus, sing great songs, and share in the joy of sharing Jesus!

Thanks again for the opportunity to teach your wonderful children!

Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences are just around the corner! There is a sign up sheet next to the sign in/out binder. Please take a moment to sign up for a conference time. If none of these times absolutely won't work for you, we can schedule another time. Let me know ASAP if you will need another time so I can begin to make arrangements. I really enjoy conference time! I enjoy taking the time to speak one-on-one with you about your preschooler! THERE WILL BE NO PRESCHOOL ON THESE DAYS (APRIL 28-30) but Mrs. Barrington will be in the classroom to have one-on-one time with your preschooler during your conference if you wish.

A Very Blustery Day

The wind kept us inside today, but it sure didn't blow away our fun! We worked on our firefighter poem and identified the letter F and practiced it's sound. We stamped letters, did some more symmetrical paintings, worked as a team on a BIG floor puzzle and watched the butterflies fly around their home.

During Jesus Time we traveled along the Bible road, picking different ways to travel. We took time to thank Jesus for His love and for promising to ALWAYS be with us, where ever we might be.

We also had TONS of fun with parachute play inside. We made a storm to match the weather outside, we popped popcorn, took turns running under the parachute tent, went around the mullberry bush and all together had a great time!

Five Friendly Firefighters...

Today we learned a new poem about 5 friendly firefighters. We talked about the different types of things that a firefighter does. Ask your preschooler what they would want to do if they were a firefighter! We also checked in with the butterflies... only one chrysalis left! We were able to observe the butterflies eating from our orange slices. Pretty amazing! During centers we made friendly firefighters out of clothes pins, did some serious playdough work, explored tangrams and became firefighters saving people who needed help!

Chapel with Pastor Dudley was a treat as always! And we had a special treat at snack time... Jared turned 5 years old today! Happy Birthday Jared!

With the sun shining bright, we had some great fun on the playground. Trike riding, throwing and catching balls, burying treasures for the teachers to find, and speeding down the slide made for a great time outside!

At closing circle we read a book about the Firehouse and practiced identifying rhyming words. They did an awesome job! Take a few minutes to practice rhyming words with your preschooler. It's a fun and easy game that you can do in the car, in the store, at home... just about anywhere! They'll love rhyming with you!

God's Amazing Gift

God gave us an amazing gift this morning! As opening circle began, I had the preschoolers take a look at our butterflies that emerged overnight. We saw butterflies, but we also were blessed to see a butterfly come out of it's chrysalis! We actually watched the butterfly struggle and find it's wings! It was an amazing moment full of excitement and wonder! What a wonderful gift from God!

We talked about symmetry and made symmetrical paintings. The preschoolers were also very involved in writing letters and addressing envelopes at the writing center today. I was lucky enough to receive several special letters today!

We also talked about the gift of Jesus, and how he loves us and is always with us. Even though we can't see him, he is alive and loves us everyday!

Music with Miss Marsha ended our morning as we sang "Shoo Fly" and did a circle dance, played "Frog in the Bucket," played the temple blocks and read a book about families from the Philippines.

It was a wonderful first day back from Spring Break!

Welcome Back!

Spring Break zoomed by and I had a fabulous break with my family, but am ready to get back into the groove with the preschoolers! With parent teacher conferences just around the corner, I will be taking time to do some assessments with each preschooler. Don't worry, they are nothing scary or difficult for the kids. I try to make it just another fun activity for them to enjoy. I look forward to sharing with you at conference time. Look for the sign up sheet in the next few days.

FYI... I will be gone on Tuesday. Mrs. Davis will be subbing in my absence.

Coming Up This Week...

Get ready for sirens, hoses, ladders, hats, boots and more as we dive into our learning unit FIREHOUSE! This week we will be learning a song and a poem about fire fighters. We'll be expanding what we already know about fire fighters and building vocabulary along the way. We will also be doing some work with symmetry as hopefully our butterflies will be flying around our pavilion. SHARE day is Friday this week, so mark your calendar.

JESUS IS ALIVE!!! This is our focus this week and we thank God for the good news that Jesus is alive! This is the best news we could ever get, and I am so excited to share it with your children!

We pray you have an awesome week full of life and thanksgiving!
